Bottle… Berliner Bash on the Bay 2013… Lightly-hazed, dark brown ale with mahogany highlights and a small, short-lived, creamy, khaki head. Smells like bourbon and toasted oak with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with lazy carbonation. The flavor offers a lot of bourbon - lots and lots of bourbon - and lesser notes of chocolate, carbonic black malts and hop bitterness. Burnt, bitter finish. Growler shared at Dark Lord Day (Munster, IN). Pours a deeper blackish brown hue, some plum glow, small tannish head dies to a film, laces small. Mellow haze, deeper brown body shows light. Aromas are some cocoa, dry roast, and mellow florals. Some oak, touches of spirit and vanilla. Roast, caramel, and a decent dryness. Touch of heat is a bit strong. Initial is medium bodied, a bit thin. Firm barrel presence, oak and some Bourbon. Oak, vanilla, and a bit roasty. Almost a dry minty spirit hit. Some nuttiness, earth. A bit richer roast, dry and cool quality as we finish up. A bit odd, a touch thin and hot. Some good flavors. Not bad.

On tap at Mikkeller Bar SF. It pours dark brown with a very creamy tan head. The aroma is super sweet bourbon alcohol, caramel with some slight phenolic notes and sour cherry. The flavor is strong with sweet vanilla, caramel and alcohol. A little phenols. There’s some great flavors in here, but the alcohol phenols throw it off just a tad for me. Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly rich and sour-ish, dark malts, lots of oak and bourbon, cocoa, grass, unripe banana, burnt caramel, dark sugar, coffee. Taste is slightly dry, dark malts, oak, bourbon, sour coffee, grass, unripe banana, cocoa, dark sugar, burnt caramel. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel, high on carbonation. Fair enough, not my kind of bourbon barrel aging.

On tap. Black with a creamy off white head. Huge bourbon, chocolate, leather, and vanilla aroma. Pleasant floral bourbon, caramel, leather, chocolate, and roasted grain taste. Chewy palate.
