Pours hazy brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, vanilla, oak, alcohol, brown sugar and dried fruits. Taste is heavy sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm, vanilla, oak and caramel finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2013 Bomber. Murky lighter brown pour. Small head. Brandy, wood, apple, grape, sweet. Higher ABV noticeable. Excellent. hopscotch (11182) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JAN 15, 2013
Bottle... Murky brown ale with a small, white, short-lived head. The bouquet furnishes buttery caramel, toffee and loads of apple brandy. Medium to full-bodied with feather-soft carbonation. The flavor is remarkably well-balanced - caramel, apple brandy, vanilla, oak and an awkward earthy component. Finishes earthy and a touch minerally. I enjoyed the base beer (Church on a Hill) and the Cognac Barrel-aged Church on a Hill much more than this treatment. I gotta go against the grain here, but not by much. Nice dark brown pour, deep tan head. Lots of sweet malt up front, the barrels turned down the hops a bit. Brandy notes, raisins, prunes, toffee. Damn good! kp (10881) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - OCT 14, 2012
