Pours dark brown with a eggshell colored head. Nose is lots of deep roast, chocolate and nice smoke. Flavor is a great roastiness with touches of smoke. Very nice and easy drinking sessionable beer. Fantastic. JPDurden24 (1675) - Chandler, Arizona, USA - AUG 16, 2012
Shared by ibrew2or3 at a recent tasting. Pour is dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasty, smokey, coffee and light chocolate. Taste is similar with the roast coming out, and a dry finish. Good stuff. Fritz123 (1535) - Boca Raton, Florida, USA - APR 20, 2014
I love this style and was happy to try this one from CCB. Hot and Soul in Ft. Lauderdale with Dan and Roxy. Pint glass pour was very dark, mostly opaque. Off-white head that lasted and not much lacing. Aroma of heavy roasted malts, earth, peat, leather, balancing hops with slight pine and grass. Taste was similar with a malty thickness to it. Roasted malts, salt, nuts, cocoa. Medium to full body and good carbonation. I loved it. RABinCO (1511) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - JUL 28, 2012
Draft. Great example of the style. Big, roasty malt aroma with coffee, chocolate, and a hint of smoke. Big tan head. Taste is rich, creamy, light and refreshing. There’s chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and crisp malt. Not too sweet. juiceisloose (1491) - Windermere, Florida, USA - JAN 15, 2012
Growler from Cigar City. This one pours a nice a dark, black color with a touch of mahogany at the edges and crowned by a thick mocha colored head of foam that shows good retention. The head leaves scattered splotches of lace around the glass as it slowly settles to a thin film. The aroma shows a big roasty character hinting at dry chocolate and mocha mostly along with notes of coffee and toasted caramel malt. Just a hint of bitterness creeps in the back end from some piney hops. The aroma is very nicely balanced. The flavor follows suit with ample amounts of dark cocoa, dry cocoa roast, toasted mocha, along with the sweet, toasted caramel malt. Some piney hops add balancing bitterness on the back end. The palate is exactly as it should be with a medium body and almost creamy mouthfeel with perfect carbonation leading to a roasted cocoa finish. Quite different from most CCB beers as they tend to be quite substantial on the palate. Delicious stuff that I could drink multiple pints of and be quite happy. Definitely one of the better beers that Cigar City has made in awhile. Really good beer here.

Draft at CCB. Nose is heavy roast with some light chocolate and hay. Pour is dark brown with a decent head. Taste touches on roasted notes and some light coffee and chocolate flavors with a bit of hay and straw notes in the mix. Not bad. jjuf1853 (1302) - Land O Lakes, Florida, USA - DEC 1, 2011
Draft at World of Beer. Dark brown, near black pour with a chocolate tan head. Aroma has a good bit of roasted malt, dark chocolate and smokiness. Wasn’t crazy about the flavor, too much smokiness without some of the other flavors I was expecting to balance it out. I love Cigar City, but this was not my favorite from them...still, a lesser Cigar City beer is still better than most. knickskicks (1162) - - MAR 26, 2014
Have wanted to try this one for a while. Black pour, thin tan head, little lacing. Nose is biscuit, roasted grains, slight hop presence. Taste is biscuit, roasted grains, some watered down coffee. Thin to medium mouthfeel. sturmthis (1149) - Bavaria, GERMANY - MAY 23, 2015
Sample. Dark brown color with off white head. Coffee aroma. Taste is dry coffee and nutty. Nice. BeerFanDan17 (1120) - Brunswick, Maine, USA - NOV 26, 2011
A top notch black lager from Cigar City. Good chocolately malt tones with a hint of roasted coffee and toffee with a very modest hop character.
