Rich and deeply bubbled chestnut brown with a foamy tan head that lasts a bit. Aroma is chocolate malts, grains and a touch of toffee. Taste is a bit less sweet. Again chocolate malts and some toffee, but a touch of coffee and sour milk. Active mouthfeel. Roasty and lively. A very solid and enjoyable brown ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass at the Taco Mac in Atlanta. The appearance is a semi-dark brown with a large tannish head. The aroma is malt and oat goodness. The taste is very mellow and smooth malt with some other grains added. An excellent brown ale

Malty aroma with oats and a very slight amount of roast. Very dark brown color with a light tan head. Great taste, complex for a brown ale and not watery like many I have had from this category. Palate is a 5+, perfect for the style. This was very good. It should be their flagship instead of Jai Alai.

Draft at Beertemple Amsterdam. Dark brown with a stable off-white head. Nutty and sweet flavor. Clear caramel, bit of a hoppy bitterness near the end. Slightly creamy texture and a moderate catbonation. Nice brown ale if you ask me.

From a can. Cigar Citys interpretation of an English brown ale, with oatmeal added. Thinnish, lightly lacing, pale yellowish beige head, quickly breaking but leaving a few small islands in the middle and a steady yet thin rim on the edge; translucent, lightly hazy mahogany brown colour with ruby red hue. Aroma of butterscotch, hazelnuts, espresso beans and even warm black coffee, almonds, dried fig, wet hay, muesli, dusty dry earth, tea, walnut shells, unsmoked cigarette tobacco somewhere (rather than cigars), brown paper bags, acorns, some deep and damp earthiness (FFF but only very subtly so), tree leaves fermenting in a forest on a warm Indian summer day, something sweaty. Clean fruity onset, subdued sweetishness of dried fig and dito banana, sourish surroundings of equally subdued dried brambleberries, well balanced, medium carbo, slick and supple mouthfeel with the slickness doubtlessly having something to do with the added oatmeal. Nutty malt core, walnut-like with traces of almond, more bitterish than sweet with a vaguely souring edge as well as something remotely metallic which grows stronger towards the end, moist toast bitterishness, herbal finish adding a tea leaf-like bitterish accent, bit earthy as well with a very limited phenolic touch, juicy; the coffee factor, promising in the nose, remains limited to a diluted coffee grounds accent at the back and the metallic aspect will not go away apparently. Nutty, slick and sweetish with a mildly bittering finish, this is a decent brown ale in the pure, traditional, Anglo-Saxon sense of the word; no high ambitions here - contrary to so many other Cigar City beers - but delivering just that. To the point, quite straightforward but a tad too metallic and perhaps a bit too earthy as well, this is not the best American brown ale I had - I miss the chocolateness of Dark Horses Boffo or even the thorough nuttiness of Alamedas Barn Owl, but then there is this refined grind coffee-like quality to it which puts things into balance. Nice, after all, but a bit superficial compared to the greatness Cigar City has achieved in many other styles. Expected more, considering this brewerys high quality standard.

A reddish dark brown beer, a head is medium, dense and light beige. Taste has breadyness, sweetness of syrup, some chocolate. Taste has bread, some chocolate, smooth maltyness, also some bitterness. Medium bodied, greatly fluffy. This style isnt my favourite, but this is good. The glass was empty too soon.
