Mini-growler shared generously by Ughsmash...thanks Jason! Poured like total motor oil. Aroma is a mix of coffee, brandy, vanilla and chocolate. Flavor is much of the same with some added roast. The heat of the alcohol is masked well. I think I expected more from this, but it was still a damn fine brew. Thanks again Jason! steelcitybrew (454) - Orlando, Florida, USA - APR 16, 2011
Pours a jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is banana, smoke, booze, chocolate. Taste is sweet choclate, banana and licorace. Palate isn’t that boozy. Pretty damn good. madvike (3314) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - APR 15, 2011
Tiny little growler shared generously by Ughsmash...thanks Jason! - Pours black with no head at all. The brandy is apparent on the nose with apple, vanilla and deep, dark roast. Taste is interesting--dark chocolate, smoke, vanilla, and dark roast, finishing with the apple brandy and more chocolate. Viscous and syrupy, which is magnified by the lack of carbonation. Decadent as hell, but definitely a sipper. Still, really glad I tried this one. Thorpe429 (5122) - , Illinois, USA - APR 13, 2011
Reviewed from notes. On tap at the Hunahpu’s release.
Pours near black with a thin mocha head. Quickly dissipates. The aroma is super strong and nicely complex. Great aromas of boozy brandy, chocolate, oak, vanilla, dark roasted malts, caramel, and dark fruits. The taste is very, very good as well but doesn’t retain as much complexity as the nose and falls a bit with some excess booze. The full is thick and heavy and not horribly boozy. Drinks very well; I preferred this to the bourbon version.

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2014 Bottle split with Pat, Linh, and Andrew. Pours an engine black hole of a black body with nice lacing if the glass is shaken. Aroma is vanilla bean, sweet malty apples, chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla oak, smoky, raisins, sweet brandy, and a little honey. What a great thick roasted rich beer. patrickfannon (1242) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 7, 2011
Bottle. Jug. Split with James, Linh, and Andrew before Explosions in the Sky.Pours motor-oil blackish brown with amber lace around the sides of the glass. Aroma of freshly cut Granny Smith apples, pears, chocolate, roasted malts, smoky oak, vanilla, honey slight caramelized raisins and brandy. Full, rich, yet robustly loose and smoky palate. So much apple-smoke honey flavor with brandy notes. Finishes with a heavy, full burn in the throat and apple tart on the back of the tongue. Excellent extreme stout from the reliably great Cigar City. Pwn3d (1958) - Manhattan, New York, USA - APR 6, 2011
Courtesy of James. Apple, boozy, smokey aroma. Crazy opaque pour... Sticks to the glass like glue. Mellow and aggressive... Sweet and sour. Ughsmash (7502) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 4, 2011
Mini-growler. Poured inky black with a rich cap of deep espresso head.. stained my glass and the counter when I failed to pour it properly. The aroma picked up sweet, deep calvados-filled chocolates, coffee, and a touch of licorice with milder accents of vanilla and black pepper.. very roasty.. excellent! The flavor found dark chocolate, coffee, and other burnt black patent malts at the core.. rich, appley calvados, coconut, and tangy oak accented.. long, warm (but not too warm considering the ABV) finish.. smoke and heavy roasty bitterness rounded it out. Very heavy-bodied, very bitter, and roasty, but somehow very well balanced too.. just delicious. deyholla (12803) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - APR 2, 2011
Growler thanks to urwithdave. Poured pitch black with a dark brown head that dissipates very slowly to the edges. Aroma has a strong crab apple note with roasted malts and a bit of dark bread. Flavor started with roasted malts and a bit of dark chocolate and bread with a growing tart apple note. A bit hot but good.
