COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Imperial Stout is dedicated to George Zhukov, arguably one of the finest generals of World war II. Opaque black in color, with notes of espresso, chocolate, dark toffee and hints of black strap molasses. The English hop varietals provide a subtle herbal dryness, and finishes with a hearty slap of roasty espresso. Pair Marshal Zhukov with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia.

750 ml bottle shared by hopscotch - thanks again, Eric! I was surprised I’d never had this one, and then looked it up and realized how many MZ variants have passed me by. It pours an opaque near-black with a small brown head that settles into a ring. Very fudgy, with chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, molasses, oak, coffee, and faint licorice. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, coating, rich mouthfeel. Could’ve guessed the brewery blindfolded. They’re consistent with their big stouts.

Bottle shared at muckfest. The beer is a near black with a khaki head of foam. Molasses and raisin notes in the aroma. Licorice, bourbon, and dark chocolate in the taste. Rich and sweet taste. Big body and medium carbonation.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2017 Bottle thanks to Eric. Pours black with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is strong roast, wood, bourbon, vanilla. Thick, chewy roast, cocoa, vanilla, oak, boozy finish, nice sweetness, very nice.

Bottle from Homer, thanks!! Pours a pitch black, fluffy brown head that fades to splotchy lace. Oily on the glass. Aromas of roasted malt, treacle, molasses, light coffee, light resin, light bourbon/oak. Taste is medium roast over medium coffee, bitter hops mid-palate, dry, herbal. Moves into black strap molasses sweet note with a light char and floral hop note. Light coffee, medium bourbon heat and mild oak. Finishes on the dry, bitter side. Really solid beer, although I think I prefer the base beer in this instance.

Black pour. Loads of vanilla and roast in the nose. Super slick mouthfeel, with loads of bourbon, chocolate and dark roast notes. Stellar

Pours like motor oil with quickly disappearing brown head. Barrel is heavy...a touch too heavy, as it’s been with just about all the barreled cc beers I’ve had of late. Dark malts, vanilla, booze, prunes, a little soy. Thick feel. Still like the base better, my main problem with this being it was mostly about the barrel. Very pleasant, but couldn’t tell it was Zhukov (which I love) underneath.

Poured a deep dark jet black with a tan head. Aroma was big chewy dark choc9late, mild fydve, low bourbon. Flavor similar, was expectung more barrel, but theres enough to know its there coating gigantic base body. Great stuff

From notes. Enjoyed on draft at Hunahpu’s Day 2017 on March 11. The pour is a nice thick dark black with a thin ring of dark brown head and no lace as it vanishes. The aroma is really roasty and full of chocolate. There is a fantastic bourbon and strong oak that come with it. This is a great balance. The molasses creeps in with a hint of dark fruits. This is just what I want to see in a big time imperial stout. The flavor is much of the same. It’s got as big time dark fruit and molasses with a sweeter chocolate and light roast. There is a good bourbon flavor to it without the booziness. A light charred oak rounds it out. The mouth feel is thick and viscous with a soft carbonation and a coating of the mouth. The aftertaste is sweeter chocolate and roast with a light dark fruit linger. It’s really effing good.

750 ML bottle thanks to Owen for sharing Black sludgy pour. Usual CCB head. Dark leather color. Good retention to the head before finally falling to a collar. Nose is espresso, roasted malts, char, and burnt grain. Subtle oak and bourbon character. First thought was the beer ate the barrel. taste was more the base beer than the barrel. Lots of roasted grain, chocolate, coffee and soft barrel character. Big and burly sipper. Beer really ate the barrel character in this but did not dampen the overall beer at all.
