750, capped and waxed. Thanks bvc! Pours jet black with no head lace or legs. Big peach and vanilla nose, tons of bourbon and wood. Roast behind that. Sticky thick flat body. Roast, coffee, and tons of peach and vanilla on the mid palate. Would be nice to taste more beer and less barrel, along with some bubbles. douglas88 (9418) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAR 10, 2011
Talk about a treat. Bottle thanks to BOLTZ7555, thanks so much man! I love me some Cigar City, and once again they prove just how good this stuff is. Pours one of those amazing pure black brews with a large dark brown head. The aroma is a blast of dark fruit, oak, bourbon, sweet candies. The flavor was very good, it had the intense dark fruit I crave, very oaky and while the bourbon and brandy were contributors, they didn’t dominate, though there is no doubt about the barrel aging. Some hops shine though well. Complex, tasty, a great palate. Uh, this beer is awesome. Reminded me a bit of my all time favorite, Expedition. Roasty, vinous nose..big, alcohol, thick smelling..huge brownie chocolate with a lil zing of some char. Dark brown pour, not much if any lasting head. Flavors mimic the nose pretty much...though I notice the bourbon influence a lot more in the way of booze and vanilla...not sure about the brandy barrel though...decent, big, and consuming in the mouth. Decent beer but not mindblowing. LtDan (1806) - Los Angeles County, California, USA - JAN 25, 2011
Appearance: Pours an inky black with no head and no visible carbonation. Leaves legs on the glass.wedgie9 (2702) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 4, 2011
Aroma: Sweet booze, rubbing alcohol, roast, smoke, salty caramel and dusty oak.
Taste: Chewy caramel, peppery roast, milk chocolate, toasted oak, mellow sipping bourbon, currant and ashes.
Mouthfeel: Sticky, not as thick as it’s untreated counter part, and very low carbonation.
Overall: Real tasty and complex. Very inviting, and well done.
Tasted on 1/4/11 from a 750mL bottle obtained in a trade. Pours a very dark, almost black rusty red color, with (I was afraid of this) not head or even bubbles whatsoever. The nose is sweet vanilla and oak with cinnamon, toasted and roasted coffee, dark chocolate, fruity molasses, and more like brandy than bourbon. The flavor is vanilla, coconut, roasted coffee, dark chocolate, hints of raisin and prune, oak, the bourbon and brandy are both there and distinguishable, and hints of cinnamon spice. The body is thick and full with just the tiniest tingle of carbonation and a long roasted coffee and dark chocolate finish. If there were some carbonation on this beer, it would be one of my favorites.

(750ml bottle thanks to ericandersnavy) midnight black pour, with a few dark tan bubbles. Nose of wine and bourbon barrels, light brandy, vanilla, graham cracker, sweet espresso, complex and sweet nose. Taste of sweet coffee, bourbon, vanilla, fudgey and a bit of brandy. Thick but undercarbonated body, creamy, sweet fudgey finish. Jblauvs (1358) - Chester, Vermont, USA - DEC 30, 2010
Black pour. Aroma is barrel sweetness, vanilla, brownie batter, bourbon is light, but brandy is more evident, cream. Massive Vanilla, barrel, smooth tannins, chocolate bar, brandy wood, applewood, wood. Good, not enough base beer though, too much barrel. craftycarl21 (2338) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 30, 2010
Absolutely black pour with virtually no head. Aroma holds huge amounts of booze, particularly brandy, chocolate, heavy cream, hot fudge; sooo chocolatey. Flavor is full of vanilla, chocolate, and woody booze. Not particularly complex, but so sweet, rich, and decadent. Palate has fairly low carbonation, but it’s enough. Damn good stuff. oteyj (2139) - New Hampshire, USA - DEC 30, 2010
Pitch black pour with a robust tan head. The aroma is bourbon vanilla, vinous brandy, milk chocolate, brownie, and booze. The flavor is massive vanilla bourbon, chocolate, espresso, more brownie batter, and fudge. The palate is rich, smooth, and full with low carbonation and a super sweet finish. 25.4 oz bottle. Pours ominous and inky with a wash of brown-stained bubbles. Nose is dark chocolate, funky oak, indistinct whiskey, molasses and tar. Medium to full body, oily with a tang. Taste is coffee, prune, chocolate, licorice, tobacco and bourbon. The brandy adds some sweetness in the end. A beastly assault maybe a touch dominated by the barrels.
