COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War IIís finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukovís Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukovís Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

mcberko (15433) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 20, 2012
750mL bottle, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma of rich chocolate, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, and some burnt caramel. Flavour is extremely rich and complex, with burnt caramel, roasted malt, dark toffee sweetness, some chocolate, and dark fruits (cherries and raspberries). The fruits and toffee sweetness linger. Very rich and deep, with medium-to-high sweetness without cloying too much, velvety, viscous and smooth. Superior to Hunahpuís, with all the complexity showing here (the chilis take this away in Hunahpuís, but do cut the cloying sweetness). A rich, decadent impy, that could only be improved by cutting down on the sweetness.

Bottle @ home as my 9000th rating. Opaque pitch black color, full sized dark brown head that lasts for quite some time. Aroma is malts, dark malts, some caramel, wood, a touch of liquor. Taste malts, dark malts, lightly liquorice, roast, initially lightly espresso, espresso roast in the finish, bitter, dark chocolate, lightly dry aftertaste with a good espresso roast and dark chocolate bitterness. Silky texture, medium to full body, suitable carbonation. A lovely roasty celebration for my 9000th rating!

Bottle from Kingdom Liquors. Poured a black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly diminished with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt flavor with a heavy dark bittersweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Lubiere (13183) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 16, 2012
A deep dark stout with a thick brown head, very creamy. In aroma, a pungent woody chocolate, grassy hops, coffee grids, interesting. In mouth, a nice bitter chocolate with coffee and woody notes, murky, bitter and challenging, but overall, very nice. Bottle 1.5 years old from Tampa. Tasted with Pushkinnow, Spinrsx, Brews Phillips, CFrancis and Ian, Jan. 14 2011, Bartowel Ottawa gathering.

750 mL bottle courtesy of TheCheeseMan and shared at the 12th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering on 9/18/10. Pours a dark red-tinted brown color with a medium head. Good head retention and lacing. Viscous looking. The aroma is huge and roasty with notes of vanilla, honey and something astringent. The taste is bitter roasted malts, coffee, caramel, honey, nuts and a bitter hop finish. Full bodied. Slightly too bitter but very nice.
