COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Russian Imperial Stout is dedicated to Gregory Zhukov. Arguably one of World War II’s finest generals and a man bold enough to appreciate the rich, complex flavors of a beer brewed to fortify a body through the Russian winter. Like military geniuses, Russian Imperial Stouts reach their peak with a little age on them, so we release Marshal Zhukov’s Russian Imperial Stout in sweltering August so that it will be at peak flavor come January or February. <P> Opaque black in color, the aroma has notes of espresso, chocolate, dark sweet toffee with hints of black strap molasses. The flavor starts with an unsweetened chocolate character and supporting notes of herbal dryness from English hop varietals. It then moves into dark toffee sweetness and closes with a slap of roasty espresso. Zhukov’s Imperial Stout pairs well with Mushroom Solyanka, dark chocolate, cherries and ground wars in Russia. Enjoy, comrade.

Bottle. Pours black with reddish tan head. Nose of chocolate, bourbon, coffee and rye. Taste of chocolate, mocha, coffee, vanilla, toffee, espresso, molasses and slight chili pepper. World class stout.

Review from notes. On tap. Cigar City Tap Room. What a trip to Tampa, and to cap it with 17 different beers on tap at CC. This was the last one, in a CC snifter. Lush black pour with dark coffee head. The lacing is amazing, it just coats the glass. Aromas are coffee, cocoa, vanilla, and roasted malts. Not the first beer I would think of having in 95 degree weather, but in the cool atmosphere perfect. First sip is impressive, lush smooth balanced, and rich in flavor. The chocolate dominates but with a darker, sharper chocolate that evolves in the finish. Top 8 IS that I have even had, I really wanna crack that 2010 now that is sitting in the cellar. Amazing.

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2012 2011 bottle. Thick syrupy opaque black pour with a brown head. Nose is rich chocolate, coffee and molasses. Flavor is rich and complex chocolate and coffee. Nice surprise of the coffee and hop bitterness through the finish in this beer. I think I might like it better than the Hunahpu.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2012 Bottle at Darkness Day 2011. Pour is OIL. Love that. Malt, wood and chocolate in the aroma. Maybe some licorice too. Slightly bittersweet but a really great tasting beer.

Quel bombe, conception pratiquement parfaite.

Draft into a snifter at the brewery. Malty fruity sweet aroma. Pours very dark with a thin dark tan head. Smooth and sweet. Date, molasses, cocoa, toffee, booze, velvet. Thick with a sticky sweet lasting finish.

Comes on a tiny bit hot, not much at all though and I get an initial splash of coffee and toffee. Vanilla slithers its way in after the toffee and it ends with probably my favorite finish of any beer yet. Absolutely incredible, a finish of dark chocolate covered cherries... a sort of dark chocolate black cherry flavor. The finish of this beer is so incredible, I have to say it probably is the best finish and aftertaste of any beer I’ve had, at least any stout hands down.

Really an amazing beer. 2012 bottle. Much better than Hunahpu’s in my opinion. Great mouthfeel and finish. Will get more.

UPDATED: FEB 2, 2014 Rating 1500 Bottle from 2011 Pitch black. A small dark brown head. Didn t see many brews this dark. Like a black oil, very siropy. What a bomb of chocolate and coffee. The roasted malts are bittering in the end, but nothing overwhelming. Better as hoped, even one of my favorites.

Very dark black pour with a dark tan head. Very roasty aromas, coffee, cocoa, even some toasted oak notes (even though it isn’t barrel aged whoa), toffee, and caramel as well. Flavor is sweet roasted malt upfront with cocoa and molasses as well. Smooth and rich finish. So well balanced and complex. One of the best Imperial Stouts I have ever had. Thanks for sharing the CCB bottles Tyler!
