3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 5, 2013 bomber rec’d from markwise in trade. aged for 2.5 years. perfect 5 for appearance - darkest motor oil black with minimal to no head. also perfect 5 for palate - sludgy fudge thickness. this stuff literally sticks to the side of the glass. aroma - I am not getting much and it isn’t the best for an impy stout - a little funk sour smell with some lactose. Taste is smoothest of smooth.. zero carbonation. deep dark roasted coffee/malts but very smooth the negative is a slight sourness on back end - why is that there? wonder if the 2.5 years added the sourness?
650ml bottle @ home. Pours oily black with a small but dense brown head. Nose is malty, molasses, and roast. Flavour is black licorice, molasses, leather, and some roast. Very complex and intense flavours happening here. beerplace (1701) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 23, 2017

Bottle. Black color, brown head. Aroma has full roasty malts, coffee, chocolate. Smooth roasty body, coffee, hint of tobacco. TH28 (451) - - JUN 9, 2017
22oz bottle. 7/2/16 bottle date. Appearance: Black, opaque, with a deep muddy brown colored head. Much darker than typical for the style, reminiscent of a Hershey bar.
Aroma: Molasses, dark chocolate, light roast, and a noticeable sherry and soy sauce like aroma. A touch of oxidation.
Taste: Deep, rich malt sweetness that’s heavy in dark chocolate and a light roasted coffee. A touch of molasses , dark fruit, and sherry, with a fairly strong bitterness that counters the intense maltiness.
Mouthfeel: Thick bodied, syrupy, and a very light carbonation. Very heavy.
Finish: Dark chocolate and syrupy molasses linger with some sherry and dark fruit. Roast is barely noticeable
Overall: This beer has nearly a year on it, and a sherry oxidation is noticeable. Beyond that, this is a very heavy, syrupy RIS with sting dark chocolate and molasses with just enough bitterness to prevent it from being cloying. Relatively light on the roastiness. Very good RIS, but seems like 6mths of age would be better than a full yr Ahuth (590) - Illinois, USA - JUN 6, 2017
