Seems like you either love or hate this beer. It was good to try, glad I just got a small sample pour (Thanks Bob!). Dark black pour. Smoky malt nose. Smoke booze and bitterness in the taste.

22 oz bottle. Pours a nearly pitch black color and impenetrable by light and topped by a thick, bubbly head of khaki colored foam that shows good retention. The aroma is really smokey and very pungent. Notes of cedar, burnt ash, and oak dominate along with hints of smoked meat, licorice, earthy bitterness, and camp fire smoke. Pretty crazy aroma. The flavor follows and is just as smokey with the smoked meat, licorice, cedar and burnt ash dominating the flavor profile. Easily one of the smokiest and woody beers I’ve ever had. Medium bodied with average carbonation that leads to a lengthy burnt and smokey finish with a touch of heat from the booze. The lager portion of the beer is completely overpowered by the smoke and wood flavors. I like smoked beer and this is an interesting take on one. Not one I could drink a lot of, but it is better now than when I first had this beer which was way too ashy and acrid to even drink.

This beer was pure smoke, all the way through. It poured jet black with a medium body, but the smoke taste was just way too much for my palate.

Dark dark, very dark brown coloured body with a luscious light brown head, about three centimetres tall and a very viscous body - crazy. Absolute insane aroma of pure cedar, wood, oak, ash, smoke, cigars, ashtrays, hickory, smoke and way more cedar - that is easily the strongest wood smell i’ve ever had from a drink, let alone a beer. Medium-bodied; Super pungent and bitter kick of pure ash with just as much cedar and wood as in the nose - strong and pungent. Aftertaste shows some earthy malt, licorice, soy sauce, mushrooms, meat, metal, alcohol and much more wood, especially cedar. Overall, a strong beer throughout with almost too much of a meaty flavour, no sweetness, a relative lack of complexity and perhaps, just way too much smoke and ash flavour throughout. Neat to sample and if you are looking for an ashy or wood/cedar flavoured beer, look no further, but as for a beer to drink all the time or to get behind, look elsewhere. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Leuken’s Liqour in Dunedin, Florida on 01-January-2014 for US$9,99 sampled at home in Washington on 18-March-2015.

Bottle... Pours clear and black with a small, fizzy, lightly tanned head. The aroma is awesome – charcoal, virgin ash and leather, accompanied by a light note of campfire smoke. Medium-bodied with modest carbonation. Acrid, roasty, woody flavor with a light kiss of acidity. Finishes mildly tangy and charred. Bottle courtesy of otakuden!

Bottle @ home, thanks to Homer321 for sending. Pours a deep brown appearance with a fluffy dark brown head. Aroma is saw dust, burnt wood, burnt sugar, caramel, olives, and tomatoes. After the olives, it’s 100% blue cheese. Medium high sweetness. Tons of anise and tannins. Burnt chocolate. Campfire smoke. Not good @ all.

Bomber shared at the 9th Richmond Rare & Unusual Epic Tasting, Richmond, VA, 11/30/14. Pours dark brown with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, wood, smoke, spice, butter. The taste is spice, smoke, peppers, roasted malt. Medium bodied, lingering spice. I guess I liked this better than anyone else there. Also, I personally blame jackl for blaming gunhaver.

Bottle. Deep brown with a small head. Nose is butter, blue cheese and ash. Taste is the same. A disgusting blue cheese Bomb of a beer. Medium body, prickly carb. Nice one, CCB. I personally blame gunhaver.

Bottle shared by Keith. Aroma is ummmm. Interesting. As in great personality. Pour is black with small brown head. Taste is wood juice. Probably the worst wood aged beer ever.
