Review from notes at Cigar City’s taproom on 9/9/11 for Firkin Friday.
Draft poured into a Cigar City pint glass.
Appearance: Poured a medium golden-caramel color. Nice lacing.
Smell: Sweet lager aroma with a touch of fruitiness and spices.
Taste: Grassy lager notes up front followed by sweet malt and a touch of spices in the middle before ending with light hops. Nice bittersweet aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: Excellent drinkability. You could knock back several of these without any trouble. Goes down very smooth.
Overall: Very good beer overall. Easily one of the best Oktoberfest beers I’ve had. Give it a shot. HonusWagner (2218) - Florida, USA - JUL 22, 2013
Geiger says this is CCBs best beer, and while I don’t quite agree it’s certainly a good one. Very nice caramel malt crispness, semisweet, but a good lightly bitter finish. Excellent stuff, extremely drinkable. markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Lagers away! Pours a brilliant medium orange color with a white-ish head. Nose is malt, more malt, some slight citrus and floral hops, followed by a hint of lager. Flavor is amazingly balanced and refreshing. My new favorite Fall beer. Light to medium in body and crisp in the finish- lacking the usual abrasiveness of the yeast in the finish. For a style I don’t care for, this beer is outstanding. Great job! CJ_Pain (221) - Georgia, USA - OCT 10, 2014
Credit where credit is due. Marzen not one of my face styles yet each October I find myself drinking quite a few as it seems like the thing to do. Most have been average at best but this year Sierra Nevada and now cigar city have produced solid marzen outings with just enough of a kick of hops to make it quite enjoyable. Very well done CCB.

On draft at Cigar City, poured a really nice clear amber, that made my mouth water. Aroma of some floral hops, and malt. Really nice balance of malt and hops, a hint of caramel. Really sessionable beer.

From the growler. Pours a clear copper with a thin white head. Spicy earthy noble hop aroma. Big malty body, touch of breadiness and noble hop bitterness. Excellent marzen. Jesterdeal (1985) - Marlton, New Jersey, USA - MAR 24, 2012
Aroma of toffee, malts and a nice hickory. Pours bronze with almost no head. Taste is nice and hearty. Great notes of toffee and yeast. Sweeter than your average marzen. daknole (11050) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - SEP 1, 2013
Amber pour in Nebraska. Flavor is sweet, some brown sugar cookies, toasted malt and a nice hint of hops. LuckyDog (615) - - SEP 13, 2014
Very mild. More of a session beer than an Oktoberfest. Very drinkable. Clean.
