Draft... This beer rocks!… Clear, dark crimson lager with a mid-sized, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Great retention. The plush aromatics consist of dates, black cherries, golden raisins, toasted malts, caramel and a hint of milk chocolate. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and stinging carbonation. The flavor leans toward the sweet side of balance, but doesn’t approach “cloying” at all - dates, dark raisins, black bread and medium-roast malts accompanied by a slight, mineral bitterness. Draft. Clear mahogany pour with a very thin, quickly gone head. Aroma of dried fruits, caramel, sweet cereal. Heavy caramel and malt taste with some dark fruit in the background. You find things in the strangest places. Had a 6oz pour of this at Farmhouse Tap and Grill in Burlington. Mostly opaque deep mahogany brown with some cloudy white head. Nose of prunes, nuts, raisins, rum, malt, a little detritus. Flavor is malty, raisins, prunes, bread, rum, stale coffee, some dried apple slices, dried cherry. Full, sticky finish. Wow, this is the best doupplebock I’ve had. The body and the flavors are awesome. Dark and smooth, like a nitro- ed stout, but deep in profile. Great!

I wanted to like this one but its just too sweet and syrupy for me. The flatter palate made it oily and sweet and kind of hard to drink. The classic doppelbock flavors were there... but it fell short in that I didnt really want to finish my glass. Ernesto987 (6050) - Arizona, USA - JAN 14, 2013

I’m assuming this is the base of the Crapplebock. It smelled like raisins and over ripe raspberries with hints of toffee and coffee. The taste was great, sweeter than expected but still lots of ripe fruits and dry hops toward the finish. The abv& is just about perfect, I will be drinking this more next time I see it.
