Enjoyed from a 32oz growler as part of a CC beer tasting with Hamilton23. This stuff was my absolute favorite of the evening that included 11 other CC brews. Pour is dark maple syrup. Nose is sweet, nutty and heavy on vanilla. The taste was absolute paradise and heavy on vanilla and pecans. It was like drinking a damn candy bar. Mouth feel was a little syrupy but it was a growler that was sent accross the country over a month ago. It also had a nice bit of heat on the finish that really brought it all together. I am tempted to say that the only thing that could improve upon this would be to stuff it in a bourbon barrel for 18 months. However, based on recent side by side tastings of the regular and BA versions of Ale Smith Wee Heavy and Big Sound Scotch Ale I question if that is still a good idea. hamilton23 (619) - Alpine, California, USA - APR 2, 2011
Poured from a 32oz growler as part of CCB tasting night at my house. This was the stand out winner of the night. Aroma was heavy on vanilla and nuts. Taste was serious amount of vanilla and pecans, sweetness, brown sugar. This was awesome stuff. Syrupy mouthfeel with just a bit of carbonation...it may be from traveling cross country to get to me. A reddish brown barley wine with a thin off white head. In aroma, smooth vanilla beans over sweet chocolate, quite nice. In mouth, a sweet Nestle Quick with pecan pie, oily mouthfeel, vanilla beans, overall, very sweet. On tap at brewery, Jan 8 2011.
