Draft. Pours a hazy golden body with a bubbly head. Nice hoppy tones, citrus and grass y notes. Light pineapple sweetness really compliments the spicy wood tones quite well. On draft at the Fruit in the Room fest. This one poured a hazy, golden orange color and topped by a small off white head of foam that settles quickly to a thin film. Some spotty lacing clings to the glass. The aroma is really nice showing lots of tropical fruits in the form of pineapple, tangerine, grapefruit, oranges, and mangos. The tropical fruits are complimented nicely by the spicy white oak and notes of toasted coconut. Toasted toffee forms the malt base, while citrus hops add ample bitterness on the back end. The flavor follows with mangos, tangerine, grapefruit, and oranges followed by toasted coconut, spicy white oak, and hints of vanilla that adds some nice smoothness. The citrus hops add ample bitterness on the back end while the spicy oak plays right along with the hops. The white oak adds some nice depth to all the tropical fruit flavors. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation and smooth on the palate leading to a lengthy bitter sweet finish. I really enjoyed this treatment. Good stuff here. Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours a hazed light amber with a nice fluffy white head. Aorma is fruity, tropical notes, with some white oak, but the juiciness definitely detracts from the oak, which is a good thing- not as much vanilla oak, or butter, just more of a smooth woodiness which compliments the tropical fruit juices pretty well surprisingly. Flavor is light vanlill, toasted oak, wood, amarillo hops, mango, guava, passionfruit and even pineapple, some earth, fruit loops cereal, grain, light dms, some earth in the finish, but smooth and medium bitterness in the end. Tap at Blind Tiger. Hazy amber pour. Aroma is odd because I like the grapefruit that I’m getting, but for whatever reason I get a touch of pickle juice. I despise pickles. Unfortunately I get a bit of pickle juice in the flavor too. I’m too distracted to get anything else. There is some nice hoppiness, but I can’t get beyond this one little thing.

Lightly hazy dark golden with a small, white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, light pine, citrus, toast, and tropical fruits. Growler pours a lightl hazy golden amber with a medium creamy off white lacing head. Aroma of coconut, passion fruit, oak, citrusy and piney hips. I reviewed my rating of the unoaked ipa, and was pleased to see that I had detected notes of coconut therein. Those notes dominate the nose of the oaked version, though hints of pineapple also peek through. The flavor is complexly malty, with pale honey and a bit of green wood slipping in alongside the aromatics. The hops are barely noticeable alongside this complex malt and oak barrel profile. Overall, the beer smells like a cocktail with an umbrella in it, but it looks and drinks like something you would sip in your study (indeed, I lingered in my son’s nursery for a few extra sips and a half inning of playoff baseball on the radio after he nodded off for the night). As such, it must be the perfect beer for the coastally located but malt loving folks at cigar city. It’s not the perfect beer for me - among seasonal ipas, I prefer the Founders Harvest that I had earlier in the day - but it’s still mighty pleasurable.
