Ed. Note: Although this beer was originally an American Golden Ale, after a short period of time the brewer changed the yeast strain, and it is now a lager. This 126 calorie lager with wonderful balance and strong hop finish is unlike most light beers. Reminiscent of an IPA but smooth and easy to drink.
It is named after the famous lighthouse that has stood on a bluff on the south eastern side of Nantucket Island since 1849. Perched precariously 88 feet above the raging Atlantic Ocean, Sankaty Head Light is in danger of falling prey to beach erosion. The lighthouse is the most powerful in New England.

Draft at Cisco brewpub Logan airport. Clear bright piss yellow with a small white head. Aroma is bread, light citrus. Flavor is light, slightly grainy, with a nice citrusy touch. Decent hop bitterness. Light feel, crisp. Not bad for what it is. A beer that I don't get mad at for merely existing.

When i think of all the light alcohol and low calorie brews i have had to endure i can now equate this phenomenal little number in the balance. Yes a brewer can put low calorie, nice golden color, body and flavor together and come away with a beer i could be stuck on an island with. BRAVO! Im sure there are others like this out there arent there? The description tells it best and add the great balance. A must try.

Light grassy aroma with a faint lemon scent. Pours a pale watery yellow with a thin fast dissipating white head with good lacing. Sour tastes of lemon and grass with tangy finish with notes of leather. Very mild carbonation. Okay.

On tap at SLL tasting. Pours slightly hazy gold with thin white cap. Aroma is cereal grain and floral hop. Flavor is slightly more hoppy but is uninspired. Light bodied with a thin mouthfeel, crisp finish, and moderate to high carbonation.

Bottle. Lemon malt and weedy grass aroma. Golden yellow with small head. Lightly sweet lemon malt and moderately bitter herbal grass flavor. Very light body. Not much to it.

Buttle from Stearns Liquor Mart, Long Beach. Clear pale yellow/golden beer with a decent offwhite head. Malty caramel aroma, fruity, bready, some apples and grapes. Malty bready flavor, thin, caramel, some apples and grapes. No good.

Patrickctenchi (6861) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - OCT 11, 2015
Bottle: Clear gold with a small white head. Grainy, lemon aroma. Taste is slightly bready, grassy, a bit of lemon peel....straw. Not great.

Per the commercial description, no. No it’s not reminiscent of an IPA. It has a modest hop nose if at all, a bit of straw. Somewhat clean sweetish grainy flavor, no hop flavors, almost no finishing bitterness. Empty flavor. Not a watery body thankfully, and surprisingly given the low ABV. I get the vaguest hint of strawberry somehow, so maybe not so clean afterall. Anyway, it’s kind of pointless. When I want a light lager (which is mostly never), I’m not gonna pay craft beer prices for it.
