COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer was formerly known as "Cismontane California Common Pilot #1"

The California Common almost disappeared after prohibition as did the term Cismontane. Our interpretation of this style is a golden warm fermented lager with sufficient hop aroma. As a brewer and citizen of Cismontane California it is our obligation to produce a fine California Common.

Bright golden orange with nice head. Smells great slightly earthy, malty with hints of the grassy, piney hops. Taste: crisp and refreshing with notes of creamy nuttyness and caramel malts. Hops are more on the finish with some piney, herbal notes. Mouthfeel is good, it’s light and crisp on the tongue. Hint of viscosity could help at the end of the taste. Overall this is a definite favorite of the style. Had this beer with chorizo kale soup. Amazing combo. Definitely will have this one again.

not sure why this beer gets such low ratings. I wonder if people don’t understand the style. More malt flavor, more hop bitterness and more abv than others of the style. I love the pale ale qualities with the lager finish. Awesome warm weather beer!

A careful pour into my large Tripel Karmeliet tulip produces a long lasting, three-finger thick, dense, tan colored head, that leaves lots of lacing, and slowly subsides with a very structural varied, mesa forming head; you can’t ask for much more in the appearance of a beer. The beer is a nice, red-stained copper color that shows a brilliantly clear, bright copper hue when held up to the light. The nose has a warm biscuit like maltiness, a flint like hop character, a soft citrus / berry like hop character, and lots of floral / nectar like notes, and a spicy, whole grain cracker like malt character. The nose is quite appetizing, fresh, and very inviting.

Lightly sweet up front, there is a solid prickly carbonation, as well as a bitter hop bite to this beer. There is a flint like edge to the hop character here, and herbal, not quite menthol like edge / bite, and a noticeable citrus character that when coupled with the malt provides a berry like flavor towards the finish. The malt character plays a prominent role as well; sweet caramelized grain notes, lots of English biscuit character. The body has a nice malty fullness to it that is not too heavy, this is still quite quaffable, but has a bit of meat to it, and I can see it pairing well with food.

A fantastic version of the style. This is fresh, and much better than Anchor steam this far from the source in San Francisco (I haven’t had a great, fresh Anchor steam in years as it doesn’t travel well).

Very smooth flavor, lovely golden/copper color. California Common beer. Slightly happy smell.

A perfect lager. Fresh, clean, crisp, golden, just enough hops and no funky skunkiness. Killer with fish.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2014 Initial Rating Date: 3/13/2012 6:51:46 PM 16oz draught. No head but sticky lacing over a very hazy, light tequila sunrise body. Nose is sweet and earthy. Taste is sweet and mildly bitter. Feel is quite chewy. Carbonation is flatish with small volume of fine frizz - small for a lager. Finish is quick with a very mild bitterness that lingers. Overall decent. Subsequent Rating Date: 1/25/2014 1pt. .6oz bomber. Good head dissolves in five minutes. Excellent balance between spice and classic, old school lager.
