Named after the coulter big cone pine tree is a well balanced I.P.A. It brings the style of I.P.A. back to its roots. Brewed with a hint of rye for head retention and a deeper malt character, this brew has the best of all worlds, great hop aroma, a strong body and deceiving strength.

Bomber poured a clear orange amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of biscuit, orange zest, floral notes, ghrapefruit zest and light mint. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of biscuit, earthiness, light grapefruit and light pine with a smooth dry moderatly bitter finish.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop Canterbury and drunk at home. Clear amber colour with a lasting beige head. Quite an earthy ipa. Now that is odd. It tastes like some of the homebrew I’ve made. Some bitterness. Some cereal on the aroma. As I say odd. Not my kind of thing.

Very nice aroma. The description says "a hint of rye" but it shows up big in the aroma. There are also pine hops, vanilla and sweet honey malts. Medium golden color, still see through with bubbles slowly rising to the top of a pale white head. Tastes of sharp pine hops at first, then gives way to rye, vanilla and other sweetness, followed by a moderately hoppy and long lasting aftertaste. Not bland, not a knock your tongue off hop bomb. Very well balanced. Slick easy drinking palate. I had always avoided Cismontane because it is expensive and I am cheap, but I copped this bottle on sale. This was good enough that I might have to pay full price next time - that’s saying a lot.

Smells floral and with some fruit. Taste is a syrupy bitter orange. With a real dank hop finish.

(Draught at Beer Temple, Amsterdam, 14 Sep 2016) Pale amber colour with creamy off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of caramel, orange peel, toffee and black-currant. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, crisp-bread, orange peel, black-currant, and a generous citric, slightly metallic, bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.

Keg at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Almost clear bronze colour, small coarse head. Caramelly nose. Sweet with solid body and dense, clean mouthfeel. Dough and caramel, some peppery bread. Light resiny bitterness. Totally lacks hop aroma.

Tap @ Beer Temple. Golden yellow color, mostly clear. Off white head with good lacing. Aroma’s: sweet, fruity, raisin. Retronasal it’s sweet, rye malt, light bitter. Flavor is moderate sweet, moderate bitter. Medium bodied. Finish develops towards full bitterness. OK, not sure how fresh this was.

I have tried this beer twice now. The first time was a few years ago when they were first getting off the ground. This beer was horrible. Dark Amber muddy color, overly sweet oxidized caramel malt and oxidized hop aroma. Cloying muddled flavor, it tasted worse than my early home brews. This beer was clearly not handled right post fermentation. Fast forward and I recently gave it another chance to see if they’d worked the kinks out over the last couple years. Nope! I haven’t tried any of their other beers but IPA is not in their wheelhouse.
