Keg at Citizen Cider, Burlington. Hazy pale yellow. Fruity nose with some baking yeast. Dryish with medium body and clean mouthfeel. Tart apples, notes of cinnamon and marzipan. Reminiscent of dried apple chips.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2016 Can. Apple, a bit of apple pie, but dries out. Very pale yellow. Dry apple flavor, a bit of spice from the yeast. Ok. Crisp and light.

This stuff is kind of bland but does have a detectable witbier character. It’s cloudy yellow and headless. It smells kind of floral w/ some citrus and bread yeast notes. It’s very lightly tart and a little sweet. This is a bit flabby and thick on the palate but still moderately drinkable. This is a definite cut above the standard soda pop cider but it’s still not exactly an immensely satisfying experience.

16 ounce can from Woodman’s in Rockford, IL, served cold in a Christoffel glass. Very, very pale, bubbly (soda-like) body starts out rather hazy, clears up somewhat over a few minutes; fizzy head fills half the glass, dies in seconds...aroma of tart apples, light yeast; yes, there’s a "Belgian" quality, but not reminiscent of a witbier in particular, and in any case the nose is quite weak and indistinct...very dry body, some alcohol presence, light apple tartness, a hint of wood, tartness getting close to sourness at the ending, and some mineralic harshness to finish...light, not quite watery mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. There’s really not much to this at all, frankly; nothing terrible or off, but nothing interesting either. I think this is my first sample from this cidery, and I can’t say I’m impressed.

On tap @ Citizen Cider. Lightly hazed straw colored cider. Super coriander and phenol forward. Lots of black pepper, too. Chalky, banana, pear, apple, and a borderline savory quality to it. Definitely get a bit of chlorine and plastic on the finish. No thanks.

(Rating #6648)

Draught at the brewpub. Quite an interesting twist making it taste a bit like an apple beer with bready and peppery notes, apples come out pretty dry and tart. A surprisingly enjoyable hybrid brew.
