This one was a very nice stout from Clanconnel, definitely much better than either of the two beers that I had from the brewery previously & one that I'll likely find myself drinking again at some point in the near future. The beer p[opened with some great roasted flavours along with subtle touches of sugar & chocolate to add a little sweetness; there was some pleasant coffee flavours too which helped impact just a touch of bitterness. It was relatively complex, especially when compared to previous offerings from the brewery & it went down very easily as well; great stuff.

Bottle shared with Niilstrong @ The Garrick, Belfast. Opaque black color, full sized dense and creamy mocha colored head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, slightly smoked malts, earthy, soft roast. Taste malts, dark malts, soft to moderately roasted malts, earthy and dry with a decent malt bitter finish. Solid dry stout I’d say. Dark brown with a tight small lid of off-white bubbles. Various grain aromas. Nice malts flavors with touches of mild coffee, dark chocolate and mild dark fruit.
A touch thin, and quite bitter in the finish. 5/11

Tighter than Gordon Brown, but a much darker shade of brown – and probably has more roast-y notes than old G.B.
Tight nose: rye bread, fishfingers or smokey bacon crisps. Mild roast taste – just a hint of coffee bean and dark choc. Bit too fizzy?

Bottle at The Garrick, pours black with a small white head. Nose brings out lots of roast and some dry espresso. Flavour isn’t as great unfortunately, but still pleasant, with very lightly roasted malt and some espresso. Medium bodied and pleasant. Decent stuff.
