Flavour has the dark roasted bitterness of a stout but with a sharp, fruity edge of redcurrent. undercurrent25 (2202) - Barnton, Cheshire, ENGLAND - DEC 22, 2012
Deep and dark in appearance, taste is of cherries, roast malts and a coffee finish Scopey (15663) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - DEC 17, 2012
Cask at Spread Eagle, Croydon. It pours deep ruby with a small beige head. The nose is roasted malt, sweet coffee, caramel, sticky berry and yoghurt. The taste is red berry, tart redcurrant, jam, earth, raspberry yoghurt, wood and light roasted malt with a dry, faintly tart finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. I really like the vivid redcurrant in this, which in my opinion is under-used in brewing. Good balance, flavour and drinkability. Fairly straight-forward, but easily C&F’s best beer to date.
