Rated in 2010 (Backlog) - Gold orange in color with a decent off-white head. Aroma is of citrus, yeast and caramel with some sour notes and wheat bread. Taste is of light grass, doughy yeast and citrus and caramel. Chapel (468) - Levittown, New York, USA - APR 30, 2011
Nice and malty. High alcohol but it is covered well by the really malty body. This might be my favorite barleywine. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 23, 2011
Super sweet bottle from Cornboy - thanks! Who knows what’s happening inside the day-glo blue glass? Label looks roughed up just like in the RB picture. Hmmm. Happily, it’s not simply a beer that exceeded expectations but a really well done English style barleywine. Slightly muddy dark brown pour with moderate carbonation, but this was really the only area of deficiency. Nose was fragrant malts, lush ripe fruits, a dash of toffee, and spice. Mouthfeel fuller than the body would suggestion, with fairly lively carbonation emerging to bring the complex flavors into play. Mellowed enough to impart the smooth, oaky, leathery qualities of a nice aged brew, but not at the expense of nicely articulated fruit flavors (blackberry specifically) and spice. Yummy stuff. Big thanks to matta for whipping out this half liter blue glassed swing top. It pours copper / brown with tan head. The aroma is a nice musty maltiness blending into sweet dark fruitiness and a sense of heat at the end of the draw. The taste is sweet smooth and yummy with sweet sticky sludgy malts, prunes, sugary black berries, boysenberries and sweet over ripe huckleberries. This is smooth silky goodness that shows no signs of going down hill due to cellar time. dmac (6646) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - AUG 6, 2010
500 ml blue swing cap bottle whose age is still a mystery. The bottle celebrates the 10th Anniversary and judging by the website and some online articles it appears that Climax had it’s beginings around 1996 so this beer might be as old as four years, which really isn’t that old for a barley wine. The pour was ugly, really ugly. Totally flat and devoid of any carbonation produced a muddy brown body reminiscent of swamp water. Aroma is solid though with notes of sweet molasses, caramel, English toffee, coffee spilt into mud and some grassy hops....Mostly the first three though. The body is actually medium to an almost slight fuller feel depsite the total lack of carboantion. A slightly slick syrupy finsih coats your mouth and leaves a lingering sweet aftertaste. Flavors of caramel, toffee, grass, earth, grains and cardboard. The 10% ABV is very well hidden and I think this beer actually had lots of potential but with the complete lack of carbonation it got knocked down pretty hard. Hey Climax how about a Climax Anniversary ber every year so you can branch out and brew some new and interesting beers like this one or like the Flying Fish Exit series??

bottle @ weekly tasting. Matta/Cheeseman possibly for the share?
pours murky amber, tan head.
aroma and flavors, caramel malts, sugary, some spices, bready mouthfeel with a nice palate that shows this bottle to have some age on it. Dark fruits with a lasting warming palate. daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - JUL 9, 2010
Tampa crew with an oldie but goodie! Caramel colored pour, nice head. Cookies, spice, brown sugar and vanilla notes. Sweet and yeasty. Good flavor for a beer this old. Nice malts, no real oxidation to speak of. tasty! ilovedarkbeer (2752) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - JUN 8, 2010
Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours an orange color with a greenish ring for a head. Notes of green raisins, caramel, and pine. Just ok. SphinxTX (2878) - Mata Gorda, Texas, USA - MAY 26, 2010
(500ml swing-top bottle thanks to bu11zeye) Pours a dark murky gold with off-white head. Aroma is a bit medicinal, some malt, fruit and a touch of spice. Flavor is the same but watered down. Mouth feel is medium-heavy body but yet seems watery. Overall, a bit disappointed but still not bad. thirdeye11 (6162) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 26, 2010
(500ml swing-top bottle thanks to bu11zeye) clear orange pour with constant bubbles on top. Nose of yeast, bread, cracker. Taste of raisin, bread, caramel, rye and a dry creamy finish.
