UPDATED: NOV 27, 2004 Pours an amber color with a HUGE off white head. (A little too big for me). The head was very creamy, and there was nice lacing. Citrus hop and caramel aroma. Bitter, spicy hop taste. Creamy mouthfeel. IIPA meets American Strong. This beer on cask is truely amazing! jsquire (4674) - St. Marys, Ohio, USA - DEC 24, 2003
Bright copper penny color out of the bottle with a big beige head and a sweet pine hop nose. Very smooth mouthfeel. Some berry sweetness with a strong orange peel hop bitter finish. Alcohol is well balanced with other flavors. Thanks to my sister and brother-in-law for bringing this home for Christmas. jgb9348 (6586) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - DEC 21, 2003
Nice amber colour with a dense medium-sized off-white head. Aroma of piney hops, citurs and some malt. Medium-bodied; Spicey hopppy flavour of pine cones and grapefruit with little else. Astringent aftertaste having hops, but ending discreetly. Overall, a nice beer-almost an Imperial IPA, but showing some class and ending more subtley! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Chevy Chase Wine & Liquor in Washington, D.C. and sampled it on 20-December-2003. MilkmanDan (1942) - Eagan, Minnesota, USA - DEC 19, 2003
Reddish-orange. Nose is very citric, lots of orange notes, a bit sweet. Starts with a good burst of sweet fruitiness, gets very tart, finishing at the end somewhat like a chewed Vitamin C tablet. Odd that it had that level of tartness at only 50 IBUs or so. Finishes oddly soapy. CaptainCougar (7634) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - DEC 18, 2003
Pours a clear copper amber with a thick, well-lacing off-white head. Wonderful boisterous western hop aroma smacks you around before you take a sip and reveals the thick caramel malt beneath. Body has a nice toffee sugary sweetness before the hops take over. Light hints of fruit and a clean crisp hoppy finish. A very nice american strong ale, that borders on the line of a double IPA. Thanks urbnhautebourg!

IPA with a spicy kick. Bottle conditioned, so there is a hazy yeastiness to it. Damp citrus aromas. Full head and gassy taste at first. Mellows slightly with air. Nice change of pace. 7.%% is well hidden. jeffin7 (613) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - DEC 14, 2003
Mild aroma of soft floral and piney hops and a slight doughy malt. Flavor is much like the aroma. Tastes alot like a standard micro IPA with a very slight touch of spice. Nice beer, very drinkable with no trace of alcohol in the aroma or flavor. Very good but it doesn't make me think of winter. Yankovitch333 (612) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 14, 2003
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2004 Poured a light copper, with a thick foamy off-white head. Decent lacing. Aroma is citrusy, hoppy, spicey, and fruity. More hops than anything, though. Medium bodied, with a nice hop bitternes. This was a nice beer, especially for the cold weather. sloth (2957) - Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA - DEC 13, 2003
Large offwhite head, lasting. Good looking clear amber color.Lightly citrusy, flowery nose. Med/light body.Light malt and hop flavors. Finish is dry, perfumy. Alc. is well hidden. jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - DEC 11, 2003
UPDATED: DEC 3, 2004 Re-Rate 10/22/04 Sparkling dark red-hued amber body. Dense light tan head. The aroma is a simply massive Cascade hops. Wow. The flavor is well-balanced, medium sweet with lots of hops, but not overpowering. Medum body, lasting bitter finish. Alcohol is totally hidden. IMO, a big improvement over last year’s incarnation.
12/11/03 7/4/8/4/15 - 3.8 Poured a nice ruby color. The head is a pleasing frothy pillow of small tan bubbles. Citrusy hop aroma with a slight caramel sweetness. The flavor is quite nice. Good citrus hop bitterness balanced by a nice sweet malt profile. Body is fairly nice with a touch of creaminess. Overall I was not expecting very much and I am surprised at how nice this beer is.
