4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Limited (brewed once) bottled 5/2012

Appearance: Angry Beast poured a dark black color with a real nice one and a half finger size chocolate milk shake color head. The head was of a rocky consistancy. This beer hits the mark to me for the style. There is some very nice lacing on this one too. Again spot on for the style. I’m digging how this one looks.
Smell: I’m picking up on some char/smokiness along with some faint bourbon. I also get some oak and some molasses along with some bitter dark chocolate. There is some faint coffee/espresso in it as well. The smell isn’t as powerful as I imagined it might be but still a great smelling beer.
Taste: Upfront I taste the bourbon with the smoke and wood. There is a definite sweetness in the backbone on this one. I taste some chocolate and molasses and a peek of vanilla shows itself. The alcohol at 11% is barely noticable. This is an impressive tasting Imperial Stout.
Mouthfeel: I’m afraid this might be where this beer let me down slightly. The feel is a bit thin to me for the style. Not as viscous or chewy as I like for the style but yet I can’t stop sipping as I type.
Overall: This being my first offering from Clown Shoes, I must admit I will give the other beers from them a shot. It is a very nice Imperial Stout that I would suggest to any stout lover. I realize this is a one time offering that I believe will age well so I am going to pick up some more to age.
On tap at Toronado (SF). Colour...total black with a thin tan head. Nose...sweet chocolate, vanilla bean and molasses. Palate...fairly viscous and somewhat brooding with big flavours of Tootsie rolls and Bourbon. There’s anise and fennel along with dark chocolate ganache and notes of oak. The finish is long and sweet. thegreek314 (8) - - MAR 7, 2015 does not count
The pour this beautiful black but sadly no head to complement it. The aroma is straight vanilla & bourbon. Straight off it is sweet, dark chocolate & finishes off a bitter vanilla flavor. Overall good but not that complex for an imperial stout. AWISLguy (3234) - Wisconsin, USA - JAN 23, 2014
650ml bomber from Bottles & Cans with a 5/2013 bottle date, cellar aged 4 months. Pours an inky black with a brown head leaving some spotty lacing. Aroma has molasses, chocolate, caramelly malts, some coffee and some vanilla. Taste is of sweet cocoa, vanilla-y oaky bourbon, roasted malts, espresso and faint fruits. Full bodied, rich, and slightly alcoholly. Finishes smoothly bourbony balanced between bitter and sweet. The barrel aging was a surprise when opening, and a tasty one! 22 oz bottle shared with the group. Pours very dark brown to black in color with a small creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have dark roasted malt, dark chocolate, light smoke, wood, mild barrel notes, vanilla, some earthy hops and some alcohol. I have enjoyed all of the Imperial stouts from Clown Shoes.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a black color with an average to large frothy brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted coffee, chocolate, vanilla wood and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate malt and bourbon woody flavor with a heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of moderate to long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 17, 2013

Bomber to taster (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; an opaque dark cola with ample beige lacing. Smells solid; dark, roasty, and a bit boozy. Tastes like it smells, only more balanced. Nce and smooth on the palate. Good beer! Ratman197 (15105) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - OCT 3, 2013
Bomber poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of bourbon, bitter chocolate, mocha, roastiness, vanilla and carmel. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of dark chocolate, bourbon, carmel, mocha, vanilla and light roastiness with a smooth lingering chocolate finish. fidemaster (333) - Naperville, Illinois, USA - SEP 27, 2013
The aroma is chocolate, bourbon, and brown sugar. It has a deep rich black color. It has a complex flavor of chocolate, nuts, toffee, with a sweet licorice flavor. Very complex and pleasant.
