Great aroma with chocolate, vanilla, pipe tobacco, raisins, and some alcohol. Flavor is a lot smoother than a lot of its bourbon barrel cousins. The cognac adds vanilla and wood but also seems to give some grape/raisin flavor. Sweet finish with some drying alcohol. Definitely worth a try.
Rating #8000! Bottled 5/19/2015. Clear dark golden amber brown with beige head. Aromas of cognac, oak, dark fruit, caramel, raisins, malt. Tastes of caramel, dark fruit, toffee, oak, some cognac, raisins, malt. Medium body with a dry finish. Well masked alcohol. Aged pretty well, cognac is nicely balanced. wilnatp (730) - Minnesota, USA - MAR 2, 2018

On tap at The Growler Spot on Clown Shoes Pint Night. Reddish brown with a small head. Aroma of caramel, port, toast, barrel, and dark fruit. Medium bodied, a little dry, and smooth. Tastes very well balanced; sweet, booze, bitterness. Nicely done. ctipping (2311) - Florida, USA - APR 15, 2017
650 mL bottle. Deep brown body with a medium khaki head. Smells of brown sugar, oak, brandy, a little earthy. Lots of sugar and booze. Taste isn’t that sweet. It is a lot of brown sugar and definitely sweet, but I expected buckets of sugar. Earthy, oaky, brandy. Some vanilla in there too. Earthy and slightly bitter finish. Heavy and a little boozy. They did a good job balancing the sugar here. Chalumeaux (1945) - Middleton, Massachusetts, USA - FEB 18, 2017

At the 2017 Super Bowl Bottleshare. Smells like caramel, toast and cognac or port. Taste is heavy, sweet and boozy, with some assertive resin and pine in the finish. Nice flavor, but pretty heavy on the palate. alexsdad06 (11561) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - OCT 29, 2016
22 oz bottle shared with Tmoney99 via a trade with TheEepiest from notes. Pours a hazy caramel brown color with a medium sized beige head. The aroma and flavor have sweet malts, caramel, toffee, cognac, wood, some earthy notes, the English yeast adds something different than most, almost a floral note, alcohol is fairly well hidden, this was bigger and richer than the base beer. mcox90 (2179) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 11, 2016
22 oz. bottle to snifter. Pours a murky chestnut brown with a thin beige ring of a head. The appearance was the only thing about this brew that wasn’t terrific. Sweet, complex aroma with a lot going on. Brown sugar, caramel malt, every dark fruit you could think of, a bit of grape must, and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is sweet, although not cloying. Everything found in the aroma is present in the taste, with the addition of oak tannins. Full bodied and gut warming. Lovely!! thepatrickman (1503) - Lewes, East Sussex, ENGLAND - SEP 28, 2016
Bottle split three-ways during the 1st Presidential debate (it seemed oddly appropriate for the occasion). Murky light-brown, with a sweet, slightly boozy aroma. There’s a lot of caramel, raisin, and bready sweetness, like a sweet bread pudding, with a fair amount of dry oak flavor and a bit of cognac at the end. Lavish and decadent -- this lives up to the name. Tmoney99 (15315) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - SEP 9, 2016
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured dark reddish brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, alcohol and sweet wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy sweet alcohol and dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex standout beer.
