FROM NOTES: August 10, 12. Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a Spiegeau tulip. A: Chocolate front with a heavy roasted coffee and malt aromas. Booze aroma also detected. A: Pours pitch black with two-fingers of tan head that recedes slowly to a thin film atop the beer. Excellent retention. T: Follows the nose closely with strong flavors of chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, and some dark fruit notes, with some mild hoppiness on the back-end and a hint of smokey-sweet dark milk chocolate, espresso beans, malts and a hint of booze. Considerable spiciness as it warms. P: Medium to heavy, rich but not overly so and perhaps a bit too carbonated. O: To be honest, this has more of a American Black Ale taste than a RIS, but i like this CONSIDERABLY more than the Clown Shoes Black IPA.

On tap at 10 East - Im pretty sure this was my first shot at Clown Shoes. It was either this or the Chocolate Sombrero. The beer has a look that is pitch black, ruby edges when held up to the sun with a dark brown head. The aroma reminded me in some ways of SAs Triple Bock with notes of soy, tons of roasted malt, alcohol, subtle smokiness and a little black licorice. Medium sweetnes left on the palate, massive roasted notes with some molasses, soy sauce and dark dried fruits. Seriously decadent beer."

Pours black, with a hint of dark red at the very bottom of the snifter when held up to the light. Tan head that dissipates to faint at the top and clings around the edges. Very roasty and toasty. Sweet start the evolves towards bitter malt around the end. Faint coffee? chocolate? Velvety mouthfeel. Good RIS for sure.

All these imp stouts look the same and most taste the same. This one smelled great! There is roasty and there is burnt. This one is so burnt and smokey it's hard to choke it down. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2012 bottle (1.5 years old). Pours pitch black, with a dark tan head. Aroma is delicious. Dark roasted malts over very sweet molasses and chocolate, covering a faint note of citrus hops. Even with the age, this one is a little hot -- though at 12.5%, Im not sure it could be anything else. A slightly lactic tang and a flavor that lasts forever.

Pitch black with a brown filmy head, good lacing and low carbonation. Nose is roasted malts, chocolate, barley, and cocoa nibs. Flavor has strong chocolate, roasted malts, resiny hops and molasses. Body and carbonation both moderate with a slight thickness to the body. Tasty!

Bottle. Aroma has big notes of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, citrus hops, and a little molasses and vanilla. Lovely. Black hue with an average light tan head that mostly diminished and left okay lace. Flavor is very sweet and bitter. Palate is very full bodied and oily soft. Overall a really good RIS. Complex nose, great looks, taste and mouth feel. Best Ive had from Clown Shoes so far.

This has a big mouth presence, instant smokey/coffee notes, but with a lovely balance of sweetness and bitterness. Nice length and decent finish too. Really impressed me.

With a rather Napoleon Dynamitish name, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHDi_AnqwN4 this imperial stout pours solid black with a moderately large tan head that lasts fairly long. Big roasted aroma, chocolate, caramel, grapefruit, licorice, somewhat vinous. Full bodied, warming, tasty.
