Decent brew, but doesn’t quite "do it" for me. Pours brownish red with a nice eggshell colored head. Aroma is nutty and roasty. Taste is full of nutty and toffee notes with a bit of coffee. Finish is very sticky bitters. fabel_beer (11) - eindhoven, NETHERLANDS - MAR 18, 2012

Bottle thx to [email protected]
Nice brown colour with a big off-white head. Smells hoppy, grapefruit, nice sweetness, some coffee. Tastes coffee, chocolade, hops, fruity, great! Great carbo, lasting taste. Great beer! Love it.
Nice brown color . Roasty-hoppy in both aroma and taste, especially for a brown ale. Countbeer (6589) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - MAR 5, 2012
Bottle: Thanks Koen:
Big vast nutty brown head on top of an amberish dark brown colored beer.
Smell some hops, light roasted malts, some gass, hint of metal, dark fruits, light herby sweets and a hint of coffee.
Taste hops, toasted barleys, hoppy gass, herbs, sweet barleys, mocha, hint of coffee.
Herby bitter light roasty aftertaste.
Medium carbo, light tingly/spicy mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller body and a more creamy than watery texture.
Nice hoppy brown ale. otakuden (1783) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAR 1, 2012
Appearance: deep claret, burgundy, and ruby port hues – polished and beautiful. A generous khaki head fades very slowly, eventually settling into a creamy head with clumps of bubbles along the side. Patches of lace sticky to the sides of my glass.

Nose: roasted malt rules the roost. Melba and apple skins, plum skins. Sweet juicy dried raisins and prunes in the back. Sweet then dry. Essence of the orchard and the harvest from the grass to the trees to the bounty hanging heavy. Cacao dusted almonds and powdered Ghirardelli hot chocolate. Toasted marshmallows and campfire smoke.
Palate: soft and ethereal. Dry finish of melba, brittle twigs, and burnt wood. Cacao beans and raw unfettered almonds. Apple skins in the back along with plum skins – tannic, bitter. Dry chocolate finish. Toasted almonds, cacao powder, graham crackers, and burnt marshmallows. Of the season, Fall especially, with leaves of amber, gold, and orange.
Final Thoughts: personally, I have no problem with Clown Shoes beer bottle labels; I find them quirky, quaint, inspirational, and original. Equally, so too are their beers and since my first bottle last year in Massachusetts, Clown Shoes has remained on my beerdar. Thankfully, Total Wine carries their beers as part of their Brewery Direct line of special craft beers. I can, did, and will drink to that.
Bomber. Pours turbid mahogany with 2-finger khaki head that laces copiously. Nose is roasty vienna and munich malts, a nice nutty waft of walnut, pecan, and cacao, and big hops. Tastes very hoppy, piney, with a big vienna malt bill, nutty notes, brown sugar, walnut, and cacao. Complex and velvety palate, and finished bold with more hops and bitterness as it warms. This one is very good.
