COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brown Angel comes at you with three levels. At the heart the beer is layer upon layer of pure, delicious malt. Columbus and Amarillo hops add an intense hop presence while a final layer of East Kent Goldings delivers a delicate floral finish. This is NOT your old school brown, but a rather sexy American interpretation.

A: The beer pours a clear brown color with a tall tan colored head. S: Smells strongly of burnt rubber. There’s definitely some citrus character to it, so it seems at least a little bit hoppy. Maybe a bit of burnt bread. Just a really off, harsh aroma, though. T: Doesn’t taste very good either. Quite a bit of rubber on the flavor as well. Some toasted malt and charred malt. A little bit of booze. Maybe some earthy hop notes. M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation. O: I hope that this beer isn’t supposed to taste like this because it was just awful.

650ml bottle I brought @ ZZT III. Very nice red colored beer with a full sized ogg-white to beige head. Smell malts, dark malts, hops, caramel, coffee, dark chocolate. After a while some ash and some sweetness comes up. Taste malts, hops, caramel, lightly coffee, chocolate. Very nice beer. Medium carbo, medium body.

Bottle - Malty toffee with a bit of chocolate roast. Deep brown with a very rich brown head. Lots of malts, quickly followed by a ton of hops. Bitterness near the end and a bit of flavor. Decent.

Bomber from Half Time. Pours dark brown with a creamy 4 finger beige/tan head. Aroma (through a lot of foam) is dark malt, chocolate and probably resin hop. Full bodied. Flavor is lots of hop, chocolate, maybe a touch of coffee, definitely pretty darkly roasted malt. It has that brown ale malt flavor, but mixed with other things. Floral finish? Can’t say no, but the flavors are so strong I’d never have seen that on my own. Complex and amazing ale.

On tap at Monsters of beer 2011. Pours a dark amber with a small frothy off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is a raisin malt and chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with sweet caramel malt flavor. Easy to drink a very good brown ale from Clown Shoes.

Bottle shared with Leighton and James in Delirium Hoppy Loft. It pours very dark brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is molasses, pine, treacle and earth. The taste is caramel, pine, leather, leaf, earth, resin and some alcohol warmth, with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not overly complex, but easy drinking nonetheless.

Flavors of carmel, earthiness, nuts, light grapefruit and light cardboard with a smooth bitter lingering earthy finish.
