Black color with a medium head. Light spiced aroma, slightly smoky. A bit of vanilla. Dry, chocolate flavor. Very mild spice, only shows up towards finish. Full body.

Bottle from Julio’s. Poured into a tulip glass. A brownish-black brew with a frothy coffee colored head. Sweet malty aroma with a hint of spice. Flavor is quite chocolaty with a little heat in the middle, followed by lingering toffee notes. Interesting stuff.

Draft at Steins. Darkest brown in color with a small tan head. The aroma is sweet and stouty, chocolatey with vanilla and a hint of spice. The flavor is rather sweet with a slight cinnamony spice note. Not many IBUs in this mother. Very smooth and slick mouthfeel with low carbonation. Good but not a standout in the style.

degbert (1776) - Austin, Texas, USA - AUG 3, 2015
Bottle. Pours a dark, opaque brown/black with garnet highlights and a mixed-grain, tan, creamy, lacy head. Nose is baking chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, chile, booze, and pumpernickel. Rich chocolate, vegetal chile, coffee, and vanilla up front; quite a harmonious balance. The heat and smoke doesn’t really kick in until the back of the palate, past the coffee and cream; it’s a smooth transition, and it’s really very well handled. Mild for as high an ABV as it’s carrying. Finish is long and smoky with more chocolate. Well done.

Bomber Bottled 9/11/13. Pours a near black with a thin tan head. Aroma has smooth notes of roast, cola, dark fruits, caramel, slight coffee, and faint cinnamon and vanilla. Taste is balanced. Dark chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, slight dark fruits and vanilla, cola, cinnamon, and a mild chili heat at the end of a coffee bitter ending. Medium-full body with a low-medium carbonation. Thicker mouth feel with a slightly dry finish. Overall a nice stout. Smooth flavours of roasty, cinnamon, vanilla, and caramel with a slight chili heat at the end. Probably a bit flat.

Notes are a bit light on this one, but I know that it was good. Not one I need to buy again though.

12 oz bottle into tall tulip. Dark cola color but nearly syrupy; you can tell from the poor that it’s going to be an oily, smooth beer. Nutty, chocolate, barely roasty, caramel, malt, lots of vanilla. Lots of smooth carbonation; medium to full mouthfeel. I didn’t notice the chile whatsoever, but I wasn’t really looking for it. Pretty good methinks.
