Eagle Claw Fist utilizes the same Chico yeast that shaped Hoppy Feet and Brown Angel. Canadian Two Row, English Crystal, and a little English Black Patent malt provide a sweet, balanced backbone. Simcoe, Centennial, and Citra work together to create a unique hop assault, with an intense bitterness that manages to leave your palate in one piece and is harmonized by the flavors of tropical fruits and flowers. The finish is dry.

Appearance: Dispenses a lightly hazed, dark copper-amber body with a foamy, lasting, ecru-colored crown. Sufficient lacing on the way down.

Smell: An earthy aroma compounded with a heap of essential citrus oils and punchy pith shards over the lesser malt hints of toast and caramel.

Taste: Sweet caramel and an additional light sprinkling of sugar atop toasted bread and toasted grains at the opening. Pithy, fruity and the concentrated quality of citrus oils providing flavors of grapefruit, lemon, and, just maybe, some dried bitter orange peel. Then, it quickly switches over to being earthy and firmly resinous, and, though theres a small rebound of that initial sweet maltiness, it snaps back to those sharp resins and the cumulative bitterness. Longly bitter, rather dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. A smoothness is noted, friends.

Overall: At a punchy 8%, Id say its better lumped in the catch-all American Strong Ale category, but thats okay, I can go with the flow.

Sight unseen, Id say this was a black IPA or something. Its a hoppy beer w/ just a hint of roast grain flavor but its really an amber color w/ a foamy white head which leaves behind lace in soapy splotches. The nose citric and floral hops first w/ a bit of coffee-like roasted character. Flavor is much the same w/ the roast taking on a more ashy charcoal kind of character. This is a slightly sticky brew but medium bodied w/ brisk carbonation to keep it from getting all gross and heavy tasting. Firm, balanced bitterness and a hint of alcohol burn round out the finish. I am not sure I can say every element comes together perfectly but this is a nice, complex strong IPA-ish brew overall.

Sampled from bombers for "An Evening of Clown Shoes Beer" at Lunar Brewing Co.. Displayed a brownish color with ruby highlights, off white, bubbles & cream head foam, and spots and streaks of clingy lacing. The aroma was mid-fruit sweetness, aggressive, citrus and pine hop presence, and smooth, balancing malt. The flavor brought to the palate the powerful hop content, and the ability of the abundant malt to control what could have become a hop missile. Add some alcohol warmth, and earthy & floral hints, and youve got a decent Strong Ale.

Served in a tulip. Pours a dark mahogany color with a two-finger off-white head that is quite thick and creamy. Good retention. Lots of ringy lacing on the way down. The nose has some strong piney hops and quite a bit of amber malt. Mild amount of caramel there as well. The flavor brings a good amount of piney hops with a bit of earthy hops there as well. Good hoppy character throughout. Moderate amount of caramel malt and also some bread. No real sweetness. Medium body with good bitterness coming through into the finish. Solid brew all around. 22 oz bottle. Pours a murky red orange with a 2 finger off white that lasts a while, eventually receding leaving quite a bit of sticky lace. Huge citrus aroma with oranges and tangerines as well as a big blast of pine sap. Citrus is present in the flavor although a bit more subdued. The malts are more evident in the flavor than they were in the aroma. Nice full palate. Bitter, dry finish.

Vollmundig, stark hopfig-wrzig, wenig Vanille. 11/11/11/10/11/11

Thanks to Blankboy for picking this up in Buffalo. Appearance: Murky dark brown with a large snow white head. Aroma: quite hoppy, mango, fruity, a little yeast and a heap of floral notes, lovely! Flavour: Malty and fruity, overripe mango skin, pears, long lactose finish. Not bad!

This is just like a hoppy nugget nectar. More of a double ipa than an amber. Does have a good malty profile however
