For the fourth installment in our "Beast" series, Sir Walter Scott has tamed the irate monster. Sort of. Here you see the creature redirected as he attempts to incinerate a herd of innocent unicorns. To celebrate, we blended 1/3 Undead Party Crasher aged in bourbon barrels, 1/3 Blaecorn Unidragon aged in scotch barrels and 1/3 Billionaire aged in scotch barrels. Hooray!

From a 22 oz bottle into a Konigsbrau stem glass. Pours black with significant brown head and lace. Aroma of bourbon, raisins, dark malts. Medium carbonation and big mouthfeel. Flavors of dark malts, dark chocolate, bitter chocolate, bourbon, slight bitter herbs, bitter hops. Certainly opens up after ten or more minutes into a smoother brew, but even after 20 minutes remains quite potent!

Overall a really good beer, just not my favorite in their many faceted line-up of imperial stouts. Big aromas and flavors of roasted malts, bourbon, oak, vanilla, booze and caramel. Nice color and feel.

Bomber to tulip - pours black but it still somehow has a murkiness to it, fluffy beige head. Aroma is rich chocolate, charred wood, smoke, cherry and pepper. Packs a punch with a full bodied feel. The roasted cocoa really shines in this guy, cinnamon, wood, smoke, rye, a hair boozy but it doesn’t detract, notes of prune. Excellent!

22oz bottle. A completely opaque black-brown pour with a brown-white head that dissipates to about 3 mm; some lightly sticky lacing coats the side of the glass. The aroma features light bitter coffee notes, some stone fruit character and a hint of sour/acidulated malt. The flavor is very complex and layered... the first impression is of a whiskey-barrel-aged imperial stout with a strong wood/oak presence and vanilla flavors; the second impression highlights a sour-bitter flavor that includes chocolate and fig/plum aspects. The initial texture is thick and somewhat oily but gives way to fairly light carbonation; nevertheless, the palate is fairly well coated, and a long finish includes more coffee and semisweet chocolate flavors. The alcohol is noticeable, making this beer a slow sipper – but a very delicious and rewarding slow sipper.

Bawelt (874) - Lyon, FRANCE - OCT 4, 2016

keenano (62) - Saskatchewan, CANADA - SEP 25, 2016
Pours black from a bomber with a medium brown head. Slight chocolate, light roastiness, cinnamon, surprisingly banana, light alcohol aromas - I can’t differentiate the scotch vs bourbon. Pretty light chocolate/coffee taste, but it fades really quick. Okay, not amazing.
