COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

65 cl bottle @ wPBF’14.
Pours clear dark copper color with a small head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, some coffee notes and resinous hops. Flavor of roasted malts, some tar, caramel, mild cocoa, dry nutty notes and wood. Slightly too thin but almost perfect balance on the body. Very nice anyway.

bomber split wth Tomaz @ home.

Thick creamy dark-beige head over virtually black beer. Roasted/burnt, dark malts very dominant, breadcrust, faintly sweet smelling. Something of dark green leaves as well, whilst warming yields liquorice. Bitterish-roasted, brown sugar underneath, but hardly any sweetness. Don’t get the pecan, but then that’s not something I consume daily. Flavours drop away quite soon, leaving not much more than carbonated liquid behind. Spritzy, medium bodied, bit slick, but finishing empty. Ho hum.

4/I/14 - 1Pt. 6.Fl. Oz. bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ home - BB: n/a (2014-12) Thanks to Erwin for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark brown beer, aery irregular beige head, little stable, bit adhesive. aroma: lots of chocolate, mocha, dried fruits, sweet, floral, and yes, the smell of caramelised pecans, but maybe that’s only because I know? MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: dark chocolate, mocha, hoppy bitterness, dried fruits like dates and figs, some alcohol, raisins. Aftertaste: pretty hoppy, mocha and coffee, caramel, bit sweet, bitter.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2013 Sample from a 22oz bottle, thanks to b3shine for sharing. Good toasty, nutty (pecan) nose. Some light roast and coffee, little dark chocolate in the nose. Black body, but clear dark brown color on the very edges, still. Thin tan head, good reaches of lace. Definitely a solid pecan pie flavor to it. Mostly sweet taste, lightly bitter. Medium-plus body, softer carbonation, kind of smooth, lightly creamy, lightly dry in the finish, a little lingering though. Solid, tasty porter. 7/4/6/3/14

Re-rate, 10/27/13: 2013 bottle. OK... A good amount of pecan, but it’s really sweet.

Bomber to taster (shared with the group; thanks Jay). Looks good; dark brown light beige lacing. Smells of dark malt, roast, and pecans. Tastes like it smells, but weaker, with an average mouthfeel. Not bad, but could definitely be more flavorful.

1/4/12. 22oz bottle from Binny’s in Bolingbrook. Black pour with a nice khaki head that laces very well. Dry, ashy porter characteristics in the aroma with just a touch of sweet caramel. Lightly sweet caramel entry with a touch of nuttiness and caramel. Not really like the pie, but tasty.

22oz bomber pours with a mahogany colored body that briefly supports a weak dark tan head. The aroma offers up muted aged cinnamon spice, ginger and a sweet orange hard candy note. At the edges of the aroma might be dusty dry nuttiness but it is so light it could be something else. The taste begins with sweet malts and some sweet nuttiness and then moves into a sort of cinnamon spice to roasted malt sort of mixture. It’s not really gelling for me.

22oz bottle pours a translucent brown with some cloudy, beige head. Nose is nice, sweet, nutty, caramel, brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, nutty, brown sugar, malt, toast, brown bread. Dry, toasty finish.

65 cl bottle @ wPBF’14, no BBE info
Aroma has some roastiness and distant moldy tones. Flavour is nutty with roasted notes, some cocoa and bitter coffee. Good, but no big feelings here.
