Very little on the nose. No roasted notes, very little nuttiness. Slight astringency.
Jet black pour, mocha head that stays for a minute before forming into a ring.
Solid sweetness mixes with a nuanced nuttiness. Almost no roasted porter flavor.
Nothing noticeable from the palate, but nothing that detracts.
Overall, not a bad beer. Worth drinking again for $3.99/bomber, but nothing I’d seek out.
Vintage dated so I’ll try it again in a year or so.
Bottle. Creamy lightbrown good mostly lasting head. Black colour. Heavy malty and hopy aroma. Heavy bitter wonderfull flavor. Long heavy biter finish. Creamy palate. Great beer. OminouSC2 (648) - Mora, SWEDEN - JUL 5, 2016
Roasted malt with some cacao and coffee. Taste is sweet pecan, brown sugar and malt. A slight bitter finish. Not very balanced. olsvammel (7216) - Örebro, SWEDEN - JAN 16, 2016
Not sure where I bought this, probably at a danish bottle stop. Smell of chocolate, flowers and dark malts, fudge and caramel. Similar taste, roasted and toasted with some coffee notes. There is a chemical note that is a bit disturbing. corby112 (2804) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 17, 2015
Pours a dark chestnut brown color that appears pitch black and opaque in the glass with a two finger, frothy beige head that slowly settles into a thick, lasting cap/ring. Very good retention with large chinks of soapy lacing left behind. Looks great!
Deeply roasted dark malt aroma with earthy, piney hops and subtle dessert like sweetness. Very robust with hints of charred toast, charcoal, dark chocolate and oatmeal. There’s some resinous hop oils in there with pine needle and dank buds. Decent amount of roast but I wouldn’t have been able to pick out pecan, or any nut really, in the nose. The roast is countered by lighter malt sweetness with hints of dark cocoa, caramel and toffee. Smells like a light smoked robust porter.
On the fuller end of medium body with some earthy, resinous hop flavor countering the complex malt bill. Robust and slightly smokey with some charcoal and BBQ along with hints of burnt toast, oatmeal, coffee bean and bittersweet dark chocolate. Subtle roasted nut presence that was lacking in the nose but I probably wouldn’t have detected it if I didn’t know this beer was made with pecans. Dry hop bitterness is there but not as prominent as expected with some earthy pine needle flavor. The dark roast is countered by silky chocolate malt sweetness with hints of caramel, bakers chocolate, fudge and toffee. Finishes dry and slightly acrid but it’s not harsh. The ABV is very well masked with little to no heat. Well balanced with decent flavor but this beer isn’t anything out if the ordinary and I’m not sure if the pecans add anything. Clown Shoes Genghis Pecan Porter 7% 2013 pitch black pour with a tan head. Umami savoury rich darkness. Smooth medium body with soft round carbonation. Roasty, chocolate, a bit nutty sweet & smooth plus pecan hiding in the wings. Good stuff.
