(2018 Vintage / Brewed with Oats) Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pours black with a small, creamy, deeply tanned head. Good retention. I hate to over-simplify things, but this smells like chocolate cake batter accompanied by a couple vanilla beans and a light splash of dark-roast coffee. Amazing! Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lazy carbonation. The flavor features baking chocolate, fudge, dark-roast coffee and sticky, rich vanilla beans. Dark-chocolaty, roasty finish. I'm getting no rum here, but this is a savory, world-class beer nonetheless!bhensonb (16263) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 12, 2018
Rater's note: I was finally able to smell the rum after my glass had been drained and the water had evaporated. "Hammer of the Holy" concentrate. I can always smell a beer better after it's drained and the dregs have dehydrated.
Bomber from Cap Tap. Pours very dark brown with a dark tan head. Aroma of rum, musty wood, chocolate and very dark malt. Med ++ body. Flavor is smoky, woody, rum, chocolate and dark malt. Rum is very nice in level. It's not dry, but not syrupy either. The rum and heat serve nicely for balance. It's quite a tasty treat. GregMooreNH (499) - Bedford, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 11, 2018
2018 re-issued version. Pours thick, oily black with tiny, dark head. Aroma is rum, cocoa and caramel. Taste is dark chocolate (think 85% cocoa chocolate) and some toffee, warming to rich vanilla and slight roast. Rum really kicks in during the finish, balancing this beer exquisitely. It's sweet, and if you love sweet dessert stouts, this is your beer. Sammy (13265) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 12, 2017
Very nice smoked beer, significant but not overbearing. I get and like the rum. More great value from Clown Shoes, proving great beer can be available and at a good price.smooth above average mouthfeel. SG111 (2203) - New York, USA - FEB 27, 2017
Bottled at Clubhouse BFD event. Unsure of the vintage. Pours pitch black, tan head. Aroma is very smoky, chocolate, oak, a little barred aged quality to it. Flavor is smoky, chocolatey, and minimal barrel character which is a bit disappointing. Simple.

22oz bottle in a teku. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some smoked malts, light rum and oak, hints of dark chocolate, and some dough. Flavor really good and has a nice amount of smokiness. Smooth texture. Another surprisingly good clown shoes barrel aged beer. AWISLguy (3530) - Wisconsin, USA - APR 10, 2016
On tap at Timothy O’Tooles in Gurnee. Hooky afternoon with E. Big barrel nose. Sweet caramel. Chocolate. Rum. Yum. The bittersweetness is well done despite the rum sweetness. The barrel trumps all. 250th impy stout! 14.8 ryanfolty (2662) - Bourbon County, Minnesota, USA - MAR 13, 2016
March 12, 2016 - on tap at Rare Beer Fest held in the Minnesota History Center. First beer of the night and got things off to a good start. Dark pour with a nice amount of head. The rum barrel aging was very noticeable in the aroma and taste. marcus (11079) - Sacramento, California, USA - OCT 25, 2015
