COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a BIG beer. We basically took the Hoppy Feet recipe and multiplied everything by 1.5. This created a wonderfully unique beer that has a deeper malt balance, bolder hop profile, and an extremely fresh aroma. When comparing to regular Hoppy Feet you will notice much sweeter malt notes mixed in with a more pronounced chocolate and dark fruit flavor. The malt flavors are balanced off with strong pine and citrus notes from the addition of A LOT of hops. This beer was actually dry-hopped not once but TWICE with each of the hop varieties (Columbus, Cascade, and Amarillo).

Accidentally bought a bottle dated 02/2012. Reviewed 08/2013. I don’t regret it, but I still want to try it fresh.
dark brown, moderate tan head with medium retention and some lacing. smells stout-y: big dark fruit notes (dates) and roast, chocolate, citrus, stone fruit, toffee, and some tropical fruit. medium-heavy sweet, medium bitter. full body, slick feel, soft carb, a little warm. comes off very much like a hoppy stout after sitting on the shelf so long.

Excellent representation of the Black IPA Style, and a double at that. Very smooth, with a nice hop finish. Way to go Clown Shoes and congratulation’s on your first year.. It’s my favorite style, and this is one of the best!

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/20/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, orange rind, cocoa, dark chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, light char, toast, floral, pine, and floral/roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus hops and roasted malt notes; with nice strength. Taste of big tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, orange rind, cocoa, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, char, floral, pine, toast, and floral/roasted earthiness. Good amount of roast/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, cocoa, dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, char, floral, pine, toast, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic balance and complexity of hop and roasted malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, chalky, and moderately sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent black IPA! All around great balance and complexity of hop and roasted malt flavors with huge robustness; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Pours a dark brown/black decent head. Aroma is chocolate and coffee black licorice. Taste follows the Aroma with some dark fruit and lingering roasted malt notes.

What a heavy double black ipa. It smells delicious, equally sweet and bitter. A bit boozy. It has roasted coffee, malts, fruits and fresh hop goodness. Wow. Amazing black ipa. It is a wonderful beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)

On tap at Deep Ellum - Allston, MA. Big dank pot, pineapple, and candied orange aroma, edging bristly and pine-like. This amped up version really works with the good parts of Black IPA and gives you a Carafa III kick laid underneath the C-hop fun. Juicy, sweetness balanced with booze, and a drying hop finish. A well-executed Imperial version of the base.

glennmastrange (2924) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - AUG 30, 2011
Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of toasted and roasted, moderate to heavy pine for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with wood and pepper in the background. Head is average size, frothy turning creamy, light brown with good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is medium, oily with a lively carbonation and a finish that is moderately alcoholic and fairly dry. Simple but excellent aromas, bold flavors leaning on the harsh side, this Black IPA is a great example of the style.
