Bottle. Near black with a frothy, light beige head. Sweet malt aromas. Smooth, chocolatey, with a bitter finish.

At Epic Beer Fest 2013. Clear black under a thin beige head. Aroma is much chocolatier than I expected, with a hop note that definitely takes back seat. I mean it smells like a chocolate porter. Flavor brings out some piney and herbal hops but they are dominated by dark roastiness and semi-bitter dark chocolate. Swell!

Brown black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, and resiny hops. Roasted malt, chocolate, and a resiny bitter finish. Medium bodied but fizzy.

12 oz bottle from Wilbur’s. Black with a tan head and lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, pine, bitter hops and light chocolate. Similar flavor, quite piney and bitter. Medium body with a lingering bitter finish, kind of unpleasant. Not my cup of tea.

Tap into pint. Dark brown fine white head. Pine nose. Good balance of pine and roast in the mouth with the expected ipa resinous finish. The roast shows through better than many other black ipas I’ve had. Not over the top hoppy either which is a good thing.
