(Bottle) Pours dark brown with beautiful dark red hints. Creamy, nougat coloured head. The aroma holds caramel, nuts, mild chocolate roast, soft liquorice, dark bread, asphalt. flowers, herbs, earth, light grapefruity citrus, friendly pine and touch of tobacco. Light cheese oxidized. The flavour is light sweet to dry, near medium bitter and light acidic with note of ash, asphalt, coffee, burned dark bread, liquorice, grapefruit, resin, pine, bitter herbs, tobacco and pine. The mouthfeel is clean and soft with an aggressive tea like finish. Light to medium carbonation. Grapefruity, resinous piny and burned coffee aftertaste. Medium bodied. sailracer (486) - Massachusetts, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Cask. Malty and hoppy but I didn’t care for the hop flavors in this one, they seemed old or stale. A bit of a malt flavor but overall it seemed kind of thin. Marheb (6193) - San Diego, California, USA - MAY 6, 2012
PorterPounder (8275) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAY 1, 2012
Savannah, Ga. - Habersham Beverage Warehouse (Habersham St) - 22 oz bomber. Pours viscous black as tar with a nice thick khaki head with thick sticky rings of lacing. Aroma is spruce oriented with some chocolate notes hanging around in the back end. Rib-sticking flavor with some light licorice notes, some bittersweet chocolate, pronounced citrus bitterness and some spearmint notes in the back end. Thick, rich mouthfeel. Best Black IPA I have had in a while. rdixon77 (3010) - Georgia, USA - APR 29, 2012
Poured deep black with a beige ring. Smell has the citrus from the hops blended well with a roasted coffee aroma. Impressed that the taste pretty much follows suit with nice blending of roasted citrus flavor (kind of a weird taste profile). I would say the roasted malts mostly dominant though, giving a little bit more coffee and chocolate. Extremely bitter, spicy aftertaste. Full bodied for an IPA (even a Black IPA). Interesting, drinkable bitter beer.

Dark black pour from a bomber. Strong coffee and chocolate in the aroma with a hint of citrus hops. Roasted malts and kona coffee dominate the flavor. Theres some bitterness and a light hop spiciness at the end. To me, this is a slightly hoppy stout, not a black ipa. Spookgolds (241) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 28, 2012
bottle from craft beer outlet. pours dark, with some hops/coffee on the aroma. Taste is pretty overwhelming cocoa powder, with some coffee. A bit of hop bitterness at the end. Not really what I would expect from a black ipa. jtclockwork (17264) - , New Jersey, USA - APR 22, 2012
Bottle thanks to BlackIPA. Pours black with tan head. Nose/taste of roasty chocolate malt, coffee, hops, pine and resin. Some grapefruit rind. Finishes dry pine wood and roasty black malt. Medium body. SpringsLicker (3677) - Tennessee, USA - APR 18, 2012
Pours opaque black with a tan head.
Roast malt, chocolate, espresso aroma.
The flavor is bitter - both roast malt bitterness and hop bitterness that plays between the two.
I call this one an American Stout. aracauna (3680) - Georgia, USA - APR 17, 2012
Very nice beer. Not quite rich enough to be a stout, otherwise this could just be a really hoppy stout. Nice coffee and cocoa, slight ash in the finish. Hops are a touch harsh in the back, but pair nicely with the malt flavors.
