Bottle. Pours a deep black with a thin to medium sized beiged tan head. Rather hoppy roast, citrus and lemony notes over a roasty malt background. Medium bodied, big roast features prominently, chocolate and toast. Long roast and chocolate on the finish, cocoa, earthy with some more roast. Nice, easy drinking, well done. My first Clown Shoes beer from Secret Santa. From 12-oz bottle pours a dark reddish brown colored brew with a thick and lumpy tan head that has some excellent retention and pillow lacing. Aroma of Bakers chocolate, hint of cocoa, floral and citrus hops, and a touch of black leather. Taste is medium bodied, lots of black and chocolate malt, some burnt wood, sharp piney hop biitterness and a hint of bitter chocolate. Finish is semi-dry, some lingering bitterness and tad acidic aftertaste. One sharp bitter Black IPA. popkow (308) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - DEC 19, 2011
Pours black and creates a pancake head. Earthy resin aromas. Semi-dry, with sweet dark caramel and mocha. Bitter abrupt finish. Pares well with chili. SSSteve (4006) - - DEC 18, 2011
bottle. near black with a creamy, stable, tan head. nose is citrus hops, roasted barley and dark chocolate. body is lighter than hoppy feet and seems slightly more bitter all around but not necessarily because of the hops....just an unsweet beer with notes of bakers chocolate, cocoa and a light astringency. creamy with a very dry finish and medium light body. no sweetness.
