Draft at Hopcat GR - pours jet black with thin tan head . Chocolaty aroma with hints of cinnamon spice . Smooth cocoa and bourbon flavors with bits of warming spice on the finish . Very good .

Poured into a snifter.
3.25 A: Black color. One finger of frothy light brown head, which fell quickly and left no lacing.
4.5 S: Smell of this is great. It’s totally bourbon forward, but it’s just what I was in the mood for. Big leathery start with lots of vanilla. Melon, raisin, and caramel. The base beer offers gives a nice roastiness with chocolate and molasses. The chiles are buried way down in there.
4.25 T: The taste integrates all the wonderful smells together in a very pleasing way. The bourbon is relatively less powerful which allows the base to come out stronger. Again lots of leather, vanilla, raisin, and chocolate. Layers of caramel, hints of molasses, plenty of roast. Very nice overall.
4.75 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lots of great creaminess and supremely smooth. The alcohol is so very well hidden. The only clue that it’s there is a pleasant mild warming.
4.5 D: Very good beer. So much better than their regular imperial stout.

Bottle, 650ml. Opaque dark brown. Sweet roasted aroma with hints of dried fruits, bourbon, vanilla. Robust with moderate carbonation. Rich, creamy and very smooth, with a heavy roasted character and an intense alcohol and bitter spicy finish. Very smooth and that makes it very drinkable. Dark black with foamy tan head... Aroma of vanilla, sticky caramel, roasted malts, peppers.... Flavor is intensely sweet and malty, lots of caramel, bourbon and tons of vanilla with peppery backbone... Chocolate sombrero was good, but this is excellent... Delicious

Pours pitch black. Aroma is of bourbon, vanilla, roasty malts, but no peppers. But then again this is a bottle that has aging for over 2 years now. Nice and heavy mouth feel with a little bit of a bubblyness to is. Flavors are of roasted malts, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and a little heat. VERY nicely balanced. Leaves a sweeter yet heated bourbon aftertaste. This bottle has aged beautifully. GJF (1520) - Mount Vernon, Iowa, USA - JAN 24, 2015
On tap at the Sanctuary. Dark pour. Starts out sweet, dark chocolate flavors. I don’t really get the peppers. Finish is all bourbon and alcohol. A bit hot for the palate, but complex flavors. danfontaine (41) - - JAN 19, 2015
On growler from My Friends Growler Shop. This could explain the lower rating in appearance due to low carbonation/head. WillRunForBeer (2702) - Massachusetts, USA - JAN 3, 2015
Another shared by Adrien, big thanks! 2013 bottle. Pours deep brown, no head. Aroma is dark chocolate, peppers and bourbon heat. Flavor follows. Dark chocolate, mild chipotle, bourbon. Nice.
