On tap @ Haven Gastropub. Black in color with a small tan head. Somewhat smokey, but a decent bourbon and vanilla sweetness. Ash, roast, and coffee. Cocoa powder, earth, and a slight meatiness. The flavor is also moderately smokey, but not overwhelming. Bourbon, vanilla, roast, and earth. Cocoa powder, coffee, and some savory/meaty notes. Bottle. Pours black with very little head into snifter. Nose is big bourbon, pepper, licorice. Mouthfeel is full, malty. Taste is all bourbon up front which gives way to smoky, malty, licorice, some subtle barrel notes occasionally, bitter chocolate. Finish is quite boozy. Has several layers which reveal themselves in stages, but the bourbon dominates. At 12.5% it is quite strong and there’s no hiding it. Would be interesting to see what some age does to it. If you know what you’re getting into, this is one heck of a beer. Great. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - AUG 28, 2013
22. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy dark tan head that does not last. Big roasty sweet nose, classic combo of dark roasty malts with some sweet dark chocolate and cocoa. There’s some smoky campfire in the background, and well-integrated sweetness from the bourbon. Creamy thick body with soft carb. Roasty dark mid palate with earthy smoke and apricot bourbony notes knocking around. Long dry smoky roasty finish. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - AUG 25, 2013
22 oz. bottle. Pours near black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, bourbon, some vanilla and oak. Flavor is rich, bitter, lots of chocolate and bourbon notes, some vanilla and coffee. Medium bodied, finishes bitter. Solid, unassuming, but middle of the road imperial stout. beernbourbon (1590) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - AUG 25, 2013
Bottle. Pour is pretty much black with a thin brown head. Aroma is sweet with notes of smoke, light vanilla, and roasted malt. Flavor is rich and sweet with notes of vanilla, roasted malt, light brown sugar, and more smoke as it warms. When cold, it’s quite sweet. But it gets more smokey as it warms. Still well-balanced and tasty. Hides 12.5% really well. A nice beer.

Cask at Midwest Brewers Fest. Poured black with decent tan head. Nice bourbon filled aroma. Quite smooth slightly hot bourbon taste. Would be good with variations. jtclockwork (16444) - , New Jersey, USA - AUG 22, 2013
Bottle. Pours very dark brown with tan head. Nose and taste of bourbon, scorched wood, smoke, burnt chocolate malt, tarred malt, burnt vanilla and caramelized brown sugar. Finishes a touch boozy bourbon/burnt roast chocolate. Medium body. BBB63 (6557) - La Porte, Indiana, USA - AUG 21, 2013
Bottle and served in snifter: Nearly pitch black with a small fading head and spotty lace, some oily tears. The aroma has notes of smoked wood, bacon, burnt toast, leather, tobacco, tar, resin, and prunes. The taste is moderately sweet and earthy with a smoky and woody finish. Some coffee-ish and hop bitterness provides some semblance of balance. A tad boozy still after 6+ months cellar time... still needs more age. Lush tobacco like tones round out the palate. The mouth feel is aggressive and biting (again showing some youth) with a oily but not all that heavy palate, slightly ashy and metallic. This has potential but still suffering growing pains. voyageurmike (426) - Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 21, 2013
Great bourbon imperial stout. Served in snifter. Aroma pleasant but not strong. Slight foam ring. Inky black, with bourbon flavor overpowering chocate. Compared to Goose Island bourbon stout last night, the lower ABV of this makes it taste more like stout than whiskey. Either makes my taste buds happy!
