Champion Porter of Britain 1993 and 1994, Runner up to Supreme Champion of Britain 1994. A superb winter beer, massive mouth feel and as black as night. The beer is a faithful reproduction of an old porter discovered in the archives.

Black in colour with a beige oily coloured head. Noses of caramel, malt aromas. Heavy body, sweet and chewy with a light slick texture and faint bitter notes. Lovely balanced. Finish is long and chewy. Nice stuff!

Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A deep ruby brown colour with a frothy beige head. Aroma of roasted grain, chocolate, some caramel, slight biscuity malts, a little coffee and subtle dark fruits. Taste of roasted grain, chocolate, caramel, some biscuity malts, slight coffee and subtle dark fruits. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A bittersweet, chocolatey, roasted bitterness in the finish. It’s a little light for a 5.5% beer and quite grainy at times but it’s very drinkable. Good porter flavours too. Ok overall.

Cask Stillage at Formby Hall, Atherton 29/01/2010 Fruit and some malt aromas. Black fruity and a little rich on the palate. Initially quite sweet but finishes with a fruity and slightly bitter full malt finish.

Doppelganger (1389) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - FEB 19, 2007
Gravity, Dover BF. Dark brown. No head on the sample I have. Leather, brown sugar aroma. Some tartness and funk. Rough malt sweetness, very low bitterness. Palatable, but lacking in any of the dark sorts of flavors that make dark beer nice.

SilkTork (5924) - Southampton, United Kingdom, Hampshire, ENGLAND - FEB 11, 2007
DOver Beer Fest 2007. Dark, tangy, deep and delicious - all parts of this pull together and sweep off in the direction of heavenly pleasure. A superb, satisfying and delicious dark beer.

harrisoni (19546) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - FEB 5, 2007
Cask gravity at White Cliffs BF 2007. Black in colour with brown edges. Thin tan head. Good quality choc, some sourness. Smooth. Not outstanding. Pretty competent beer without being exciting.

Cask Conditioned, Akkurat Stockholm
Dark brown to black color; thin head. Aroma of caramel, malt, dust, yeast. Smooth; the taste is quite balanced (malt, roasted malt, caramel, liquorice). Good.

Cask @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm
A mellow and clean brew, easy going and very well balanced. Slightly toasted with a hint of chocolate and vanilla. To me it’s more of a strong mild than a porter. I like milds...

Svesse (8952) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAR 2, 2006
(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm) Colour is very dark brown, almost black, with dense light brown head. Roasted nose with lots of dark chocolate. Roasted taste with dark, bitter chocolate and dried fruit (prunes). Quite full bodied, with a tarry hint. Easily drinkable despite the abv. Nice!
