The Library IPA is definitely not for everyone. True to the IPA style, it has a dormant, almost overpowering hop bitterness. A three week dry hopping process is used to prepare the ale, as was done centuries ago, when this style of beer first came about.

On tap in Norman, copper color with a beige head. Aroma of sweet grainy malts and just a little hops. Flavor grainy malts and hops. Finish is a little bitter and dry. Pretty weak on the hops for an IPA.

UPDATED: MAY 24, 2008 I gave this a higher rating a while back, but the formula has definitely changed since the first time I tried it a couple of years ago. It used to be a pretty respectable IPA, but my most recent tasting (5/24/08 at Coachs in OKC Bricktown) was very disappointing. Poured a clear amber with virtually no head. Moderately floral, hoppy aroma. But the flavor was very disappointing--weak (by IPA standards) green hops and virtually nothing else. Thin, watery mouthfeel. i dont know when or why they changed the formula, but I hope they switch back soon.

Bottle, pours a hazy amber color, some nice hop notes. a bit of apricot, and citrus. Nothing spectacular but drinkable.

Amber coloured body with a light tan head that tops the beer. Great aroma of fresh hops, malt and citrus. Medium-bodied; Strong hop flavour with a good malt backbone and a great bittering finish. Aftertaste is all about the hops - very bittering and very good. Overall, a great IPA from a brewpub, this one should be tried by all! This beer was the best of the bunch from Coachs. I sampled this beer from draught at the brewpub in Bricktown, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on 13-December-2005.

On tap at the brewsteraunt in Norman. Copper colored with an off white head. Nice lacing and head retention. Has a medium intensity grapefruit aroma. Medium bodied with light carbonation. A bitter hop flavor predominates, with a grainy malt flavor for background effect. A pretty decent IPA considering the scant 4% abv content. 2003

Light orange, frothy bubbling head. Slightly cheesy, chloriney hops aroma - somewhat stale. Apricot basetones. Grainy, langorously unfolding flavor, biting hops greenness. Moderately bitter finish with plentiful creaminess, but very astringent.

Draft at the Library in Norman, OK... Pours almost flat, no head... Copper color... Aroma is typical IPA with malty back... Palate is medium bodied with a finish that really doesnt deliver... It just kinda stops... Oh well... $2.50 at Happy Hour is a steal... Nice waitresses, nice legs...

Aroma of oranges, grapefruit and some pine. Very hoppy beer, the hops dominate and its magnificent. You can almost feel the hop oils. Not very balanced, but this is an IPA.

Draft at Norman brewpub, 11/13/06: Orange-copper and only thin-veiled. Grapefruity and citric with a nice bitter ending. Sharp and metallic a bit, but a "better than expected" venture. Nice.

(Tap) Pours a light colored brown with a small short-lived head. Initial taste is rich and hoppy. This is relatively short lived with a fast, dry finish. Little in the way of malts. Seemingly unbalanced, but still a good beer. One of the better brews from Coachs.
