Appearance:Black pour with a thin, scummy tan head.
Aroma:Roasted malt, chocolate and a bit of smoky whiskey.
Flavor:Typical of the aroma. Roasted malt and chocolate with only a hint of whiskey.
Palate:Medium body with soft carbonation.
Overall:Again, needs some body. Barrel aging wasn’t apparent enough for my tastes.
UPDATED: OCT 6, 2009 This rare bottle was shared by bifrostguard on BA - thanks, Cameron! Pours black and not too viscous with just a little tan foam on top that settles to a ring. Decent lacing. Awesome aroma of whiskey, roast, coffee, chocolate, black cherry, and alcohol. Flavor is very complex and somewhat heavy on the whiskey. Roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate also present, with noticeable alcohol. Palate is medium full, could use a little more body. Soft carbonation. Full bodied and smooth. Roasty.

One of the best RIS aromas ever. Delicate whiskey, vanilla, oak, and a touch of chocolate. Classic RIS pitch black pour, with a brown head that is slightly darker than the regular Blackbeerd. Flavor is extremely balanced. The bourbon enhances but doesn’t overpower. Oak and vanilla mixed with bittersweet chocolate followed by a slight bourbon finish. Regular Blackbeerd is a tad thin for the style and this is no different. It makes the drinkability superb on a stout such as this however. World class.

Bomber poured a translucent dark brown nearly black with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of light bourbon, oak, dark chocolate, vanilla and light roastiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a lightly dry finish. UPDATED: JUL 20, 2009 Bottle. Oh man there is some fuss over this on the other site. Why is it that low production correlates with very high Reviewer average. Pours a brune body with an off white head. Lactose, turpentine, where the hell is the jack?! Soy, licorice light chocolate and some creamy vanilla. Big thanks to stopbarking for sharing this awesome beer! Pours a dark black color with a light tan head. Smell is chocolate, caramel, and bourbon, but not over the top with the bourbon and it meshes very well without dominating. Taste is bitter dark chocolate and is nice and lightly hoppy and a bit dry with moderate bourbon flavor. Well balanced but the chocolatey flavor in the base beer seems tamed a bit by the bourbon presence. I found that I enjoyed the smell of this over the original while preferring the taste of the original slightly over this. Both fantastic beers, and I really enjoyed this one.
