Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Small light brown head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, sweetness, light spice, vague coffee. Flavour of roast, caramel, chocolate, sweetness, cocoa. Meidum to full bodied. Dry roasty bitterness in the end. Papsoe (25063) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - OCT 24, 2010
Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Sean9689. Pours black with a vague, vague tint of red - and a tiny, rough beige head. Hard roast malt, dried fruits and whiskey. Solid body, hard roast malts, smoky and tar-like, very dry and roughly malt bitter. Lots of whiskey, but dry and ashy. Quite some malt bitterness. 241010 Sean9689 (285) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 19, 2010
Bottle brought by me to our Epic Chicago Tasting. Poured into Rochefort tulip and split amongst some awesome Chicago BAs.
A - Pours black, creamy mocha head, thick ring around the glass. Some lacing left along the sides, pretty viscous, motor oil.
S - Chocolate, slight JD, very smooth, some barrel/oak. Very easy on the nose and really impressive for 9%.
T - Chocolate, super-smooth JD, nice touch of alcohol. Not nearly as boozy and the BT or regular version. The JD and chocolate notes meld together well and create a really nice stout.
M - Medium to full, smooth and rich, oily finish.
D - This was my favorite version by a long-shot. The JD and stout were put together well and the over 9% alcohol is nearly untraceable. Recommend. ksurkin (1021) - Norfolk, Virginia, USA - JUN 28, 2010
UPDATED: MAY 28, 2013 JD barrel aged version, sampled 3 or 4 times at brewvival. pours a very thick, jet black with a light tan head leaving thick, sticky lacing. aroma is wonderful with big, dark roasted malts, chocolate, and woody bourbon, with notes of raw, green coffee beans, and vanilla cake batter and hints of herbal hops. flavor is absolutely fantastic with huge notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, and light coffee backed by sweet vanilla, yellow cake, and coconut with woody bourbon on the swallow. palate is smooth and silky despite being thinner than most big imperial stouts with solid carbonation and a lingering, warm, roasty finish. overall, a great barrel aged impy from the coast boys. The bottle looks really good, as well as the beer in the glass. Deep black, small creamy head. Starts malty-dry, modest bitter, roasty, notes of bitter chocolate. Turns milder, a bit sweeter, modest smoky. Velvet-soft finish, well balanced, sticky. Very drinkable and good Imperial Stout! SphinxTX (2875) - Mata Gorda, Texas, USA - MAY 6, 2010
