Dark and oily pour. Approaching SA triplebock pour. nose is very oaky. Taste is overrun with wax and plastic notes, but a bourbon character provides a contrast.
Pours pitch black and opaque with a one finger beige head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Very good retention for the style with streaks of spotty lacing left behind. Looks great.
Very inviting aroma with spicy bourbon barrel notes nicely integrated into the characteristics of the base beer. Boozy with spicy bourbon but it doesn’t completely overpower the other notes. Some dry oak/toothpick character along with velvety vanilla bean, marshmallow and toasted coconut. Really nice barrel character with roasted and sweet malts lingering underneath. Roasted coffee bean, burnt toast, smoke and oatmeal followed by dark chocolate, fudge and faint licorice.
Full bodied with slight viscosity and a spicy bourbon barrel presence that’s nicely integrated into the flavors of regular Blackbeerd. I’m not a big fan of he regular version but the barrel aging here has greatly improved the flavor. The four or so years time has mellowed things out considerably but there’s still some very nice whiskey flavor along with dry, toasted oak, coconut and vanilla. Dry, spicy and boozy but doesn’t have any heat at all at this point. JD still dominant but there’s also a decent malt presence lingering underneath. More roast than anything with flavors of burnt toast, bitter coffee grinds, charcoal and tamely but there is some bittersweet dark chocolate, toffee and caramel sweetness balancing things out somewhat. Decently balanced, complex and easy to drink but had lost some of it’s boozy bite over the years. The look: Black body topped by a tan ring of foam.
In long: Nose is heavy on the barrel side but thankfully the perfumy Jack Daniel’s character is missing in action. This burnt cereals and vanilla soaked bourbon/whiskey barrels. Taste is also dominated by vanilla soaked barrels, and surprisingly the perfumy JD’s character is much more present in the taste than in the aroma. Really quite a bit of vanilla here, even by BA impty stouts standards. Also a peaty sensation that is something I really don’t associate with JD’s barrels, so gotta to be coming from the malts. Rounding the up the flavors department are some ground coffee, burnt stuff, some bittersweet chocolate and a boozy bite. Certainly very sweet but does not feel cloying because of all that roast and wood wiping the taste buds with a steel wool. Big oily body with medium carbonation. Not sure if this one is supposed to have a taste of rar or not, I’m loosing track of that shit. Not a bad beer, just another brutal barrel aged impy stout, that was a long bomber to drink, pleasant enough for me to drink the whole thing, but not something I will seek again. Entering this rating on a Monday morning at work after a very beery week-end, I have to say it is a nice sensation to have a clear head and no beer buzz to clutter my judgement, but I’m opened to exploring other options.
Pours black with no head aroma Is chocolate bourbon oak and vanilla. Taste is chocolate, oak and vanilla. Smooth and tasty, a little thin.

Pours pitch black in color. It is a evil black. No light passes through at all. The head is dark brown i color. Decent retention with nice lacing.
At first whiff I get lots of roasted malts and coffee. As I dip back into it I pick up on the bourbon which is present but not overpowering.
Nice roasted malts start the show. The coffee flavors follow. Then I get hints of toffee, dark chocolate, wood, and vanilla. The bourbon in my opinion is blended in very well. It’s not overpowering and allows the other flavors to come through nicely.
Pretty creamy but a little on the thinner side for a big stout. The carbonation is perfect imo. The alcohol leaves a slight tingle in the back of my throat.

This pours nearly black with slightly transparent brown edges.
The aroma is more balanced and complex than the regular version. Whiskey, oak, vanilla, and brown sugar come across the nose first, followed by the dark roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, and smokey aromas.
This version is quite sweet to start. Sweet bourbon, vanilla, and brown sugar combine with the roasted malt to impart a sugary coffee flavor. The oak and smoke flavors swirl together to add nice complexity in the middle. There is much less hop bitterness here, which is a plus. Unfortunately, the sweetness seems to spiral out of control and become a bit cloying by the end of the sip.
For the style, this has a medium body and medium carbonation. A light stickiness and coffee-like acidity, atlhough even the mouthfeel mellows a bit from the barrel.

Bottle compared side by side with the Buffalo Trace version. Provided by GOGRANDE. Thanks a ton my friend. This beer probably reached its peak about 6 months ago. The carbonation well pretty much gone and sadly so was the flavor. There was still slight hints of bourbon and chocolate but it really lacked in comparison to the Buffalo Trace Version.
