From a 50 cl bottle shared at the RB DC tasting Aug 1, 2015. Pours a clear cola with an off white head. Aroma of dark fruits. Flavors of plum. Bitter roast finish.

BOD 4/1/15. Pours black as a starless night. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Rich complex nose of dark fruit (plum, prune, date, fig), chocolate, molasses and roast over a subtle hop background. Although not barrel aged, a distinct bourbon note is quite evident Full body with a nice creamy texture. Normal carbonation level with a touch of effervescence in the middle and a subtle burst in the finish. The flavor profile is good with a rather strong intensity of alcohol that tends to mute everything else, which hurts complexity and results in a lack of balance. However, after about half a glass, the palate adjusts to the raw alcohol and does allow for flavor complexity to emerge (translation - this is a sipper). It begins with a wave of dark chocolate over a rich molasses sweetness. The middle brings allows the dark fruit flavors to emerge, which are predominately prune and date. The finish is a slow sweet fade with a somewhat astringent alcohol bite, coupled with the associated heat and pucker, and bourbon like flavor.

This one is way under rated. Got a growler at a liquor store in myrtle beach. Strong roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate flavor. Finishes with a coffee fisnish and not overly bitter. Perfectly balanced beer. Black with a thin tan head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

jredmond (8284) - New York, New York, USA - JAN 7, 2015
Bottle sampled at Frank’s January 2015 tasting. Pours a deep blackish brown body with thin tan lacing. Aroma is sweet roast, light lactose and sharpie marker. Mouthfeel is medium with lots of sweetness upfront followed by roast, sweet nuts - macadamia & almonds, faint smoke and sweet malts. I wish this didn’t have the vague sharpie character, otherwise it’d be pretty good.

22 oz. bottle, big thanks to Chris for this one! Deep black pour, smallish but pretty tan head. Nose and flavor are lovely, with good roasted bitterness to balance out nice sweet chocolate, black licorice, hints of cherry and plum. Not as rich or complex as something like Expedition, but lots going on, and not overwhelming. Really well done.
