Bottle, from Charleston Beer exchange, bottle 2/23/10. Consumed 9/7/10. good aroma, malty, smoke, soy sauce, chocolate, Minor licorice. Blackish brown color, good head that faded quick, spotty lace. Bitter flavors. Thick body, creamy oily mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Good, wasn’t as rich as I wanted it to be. Scores on armoma flirting between 6’s and 7’s. Poured into a pint glass. Bottled on 02/23/2010. Big thanks to Gyle41386 for this.
4.5 A: Black color. Nearly three fingers of frothy/creamy hybrid light brown head. Falls to about a half a finger of really creamy head and remains. Very good retention and lots of lacing.
4.5 S: Very nice mix of roastiness and sweetness. Roasted barley and sweet chocolate are the strongest flavor. Coffee to a lesser extent. Not the most complex of aromas, but what is there is very nice. Great job.
4.0 T: Pretty good, but not nearly as good as the nose. Not as roasty as the nose, but the chocolate is there again. Slightly sourish twang in there, almost like a touch of lactose. Coffee is a bit stronger than in the nose.
3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Reasonably creamy. It’s not bad, but I NEED my impy stouts to be full bodied.
4.0 D: Tasty and easy to drink. If the mouthfeel was a bit thicker, this would have floored me.

Bottle shared by Dak. Black pour with a small foamy head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit. Roasty flavor with molasses and licorice. Thick on the palate. Good brew! fear025 (214) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - JAN 11, 2011
This batch was bottled on 12/21/2010.
Aroma:The aroma is of sweet dark malt, with slightly burnt roasty overtones. There is also chocolate and dark fruits present.
Appearance:The color of the beer is black and opaque. The deep mocha colored head is thick, rich, lustrous, and long-lasting.
Taste:Tons of roast malt, dark chocolate, licorice, and coffee flavors are present in the foretaste. The strong bitter hops come out more in the midtaste. The aftertaste is mostly faded coffee and roast malt.
Palate:The body on this one is lighter than I expected, and the carbonation was good. This beer has a nice creamy feel. The aftertaste has a little hop astringency.
Overall:I enjoyed this beer a lot, it’s a great roast-driven RIS with a lot of complexity. hopscotch (11236) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - DEC 26, 2010
Bottle... Tar black ale with a mid-sized, creamy, mushroom-colored head. Great retention. The rich, roasted bouquet is a mélange of molasses, licorice, sassafras and cola. Full-bodied with a silky, buttery mouthfeel and zippy carbonation. The flavor is a deeply roasted, fairly bitter blend of licorice, blackstrap molasses and charcoal. Lengthy, bitter, blackstrap finish. Bottle courtesy of dosbeerigos!

Sampled at a Freetail release, bottle share. Pours near black with just a bit of off-white head. Nose is bittersweet chocolate, some smoke, roasty and a bit of alcohol. Flavors follow the nose and is meaty (smoke related?), fresh coffee and a nice lingering coffee (and some hops) bitter finish. Medium to full mouthfeel. madsenbryg (371) - Holstebro, DENMARK - OCT 24, 2010

Bottle thanks to the BeerSommeliar. Big thick black pour with a thick tan head. Dry roasted grain, chocolate aroma. Lots of chocolate, some smokiness, medium thick body and a nice hoppy bite somewhere in there. Tasty brew, would like to age it a bit. A Mes rate. Bottle at Chris O’s "Has anyone seen my stool?" tasting.
Black body with a tan head. Lots of chocolate malt and a good dollop of fruit. Slight soy and a good amount of alcohol showing. Faint spice and coffee in the finish. Ok, just a little basic.
