Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, full sized dense brown head. Aroma is malts, light roast, chocolate, a hint of liquor. Taste malts, again light to moderately roasty, slightly sweet malts in the distance, chocolate, a touch of mocha, softly bitter. Medium to full body, suitable fairly soft carbonation, velvety mouthfeel, oily texture. Absolutely delicious! One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Fantastic! beernovice39 (3270) - Idaho, USA - JUN 14, 2010
A jet black pour with fluffy tan head. It is black by the way. Stars do not escape its blackness. Scent is sweet malts, coffee, hints of chocolate. Taste is, well amazing! Coffee is up front with a very nice bitter finish but it is balanced. Super! CorneliusBunkr (10) - Oakwood Hills, Illinois, USA - JUN 19, 2013
Bottle share with xdtfx. Pours almost total black with minimal head. Nice carbonation. Coffee bourbon roasted malts and some hops deliver a delicious flavor. The alcohol shows up much more as it warms. A delicious brew to be sure. craftbeerdesign (2254) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - MAR 4, 2010
Draft sample @ Brewvival on 2/27/10. Very nice IS indeed... Pitch black pour with a big tan head which lasts... big roasty aroma with some licorice and sweet malts... very smooth and frothy body with some dark fruit notes. lingering roasted finish. Great beer! wavers1 (916) - Notown, California, USA - AUG 28, 2010
2010 bottle courtesy of moejuck, thanks homie! been wanting to try the regualar version before i break into the ba versions, and i thi nk i am in for a treat, as this itself is a treat. thick brown pour with a nice head and slight cascading after a sip. the aroma and taste are very meaty, peaty, smokey, big and chiwy all the way around. the mouth feel is to match, with an oily beef jerky like finish and aftertaste. this is a pretty good imperial stout with a lot of big arts on it, but its more refined than dl 09-10 and the likes. good stuff.

On tap at trade show. Beer poured a true black with huge brown foamy head. Smells of malt, cocoa, coffee, and more. Taste was smooth, creamy, and delicious. Best of the show. BeerFanDan17 (1120) - Brunswick, Maine, USA - MAR 4, 2010
Very rich and malty. Large notes of espresso and dark chocolate. Very dark. daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAR 21, 2010
Nearly black pour with a nice tan head. Roasty and toasty aroma with tons of chocolate. Prunes and molasses too. Flavor is both sweet and bitter. Chcocolate and coffee with prunes. Damn nice. Beerbuddha (100) - New Orleans, Louisiana, USA - JUL 1, 2010
Appearance: The beer poured a dark black with slight ruby highlights from the light. Plenty of lacing.
Smell: Amazing aroma of chocolate, dark fruits, coffee and dark bread.
Taste: Nice bready maltiness with hints of chocolate and coffee. Interesting hoppiness to it which provides a nice citrus note.
Mouthfeel: Full body with little to medium carbonation.
Overall: Fantastic brew! This one would be great during those cold winter nights!!

Received in trade form brentk56, thanks for the opportunity!
Pours a solid black color with a decent sized fluffy tan head that shows moderate retention. This smells incredible from the moment I pop the cap until I stick the bottle in the recycle bin. Dark fruits, caramel, licorice, chocolate, hints of smoke, its all in here. Little to no hop presence in the aroma. Taste is caramel and chocolate up front, licorice, dark fruit and faint hints of alcohol and hop deep underneath. Smooth chocolate frappe creamy mouthfeel, light level of carbonation, medium to thick body. I wish I hadn’t sat on this one so long because I’d love to know what its like fresh. This is drinking beautifully right now, too bad its the only one I’ve ever seen.
