Coast - La Smoked Porter BOD 11/6/14 - 7.9% Alcohol
Pours almost pitch black. World Class massive head, lacing and retention. Very nice nose of moderate campfire smoke, with a meaty note, over a subtle light cherry wood sweetness. As it warms, a very light note of roast is detected. Medium body with a smooth texture that is almost creamy. Normal carbonation with a hint of carbonation in the middle and a bit in the finish. The flavor profile is reasonably intense, very complex and extremely well balanced. It begins with a burst of moderate smoke, that lacks the meatiness of the nose, then flows into a light sweetness with a subtle cherry flavor. The sweetness fades into a light roast bitterness. As the hop/roast bitterness fades, a bitter dark chocolate note is detected. The finish is slightly dry and leaves you with a light lingering bitterness with distinct smoke notes. rbrazell (1698) - Florida, USA - JUL 5, 2014
2010 Draft at Coast. Deep brown pour with a frothy tan head. Salt cured ham, smoke, dry roasted malts with a touch if cocoa in the nose. Flavor is similar but slightly thin, but a good summer Porter nonetheless. Butters (4059) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 11, 2011
Sampled at brewvival. Was later in the day, so I didn’t get much in the way of notes. Only that it was much smokier in the aroma than in the flavor. Big carbonation. maniac (3800) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - SEP 17, 2010
On tap at the Charleston Brewvival on 02/27/2010. Dark black body with a creamy tan heaed. Sweet smoke, salt and bacon aroma. Big smoke flavor with some caramel, roast and salt. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.

Growler at a Tampa tasting courtesy of bobby8405. Poured a dark brown with a tall, foamy, tan head. Nose is straight bacon maybe a touch of molasses. Medium body with a smooth mouth feel. Flavor is big notes of bacon and roasted malt, lighter notes of chocolate and toffee, light ash. Actually a very tasty balanced beer, the smokey flavors are very strong but well balanced with the sweet cocoa malt notes giving the beer an overall chocolate covered bacon feel.

7 hour old growler from Green’s Columbia. Pours a dark shade near black with some red tints. The head is dark tan and large and frothy. Smells awesome. Lots of campfire, bacon and a bittersweet fruitiness along with hints of chocolate and coffee. Flavor is absolutely delicious. Actually, this brings to mind Yazoo Sue. This is very much like Sue, just a little less smoky. The flavor has even hints of dark chocolate, bacon, and that fruity smoke that cherry wood does best. This is awesome, I’m impressed with Coast. The smoke here is assertive and prominent, but with a little more body and more smoky intensity this could be on the level of Sue’s greatness. Cybercat (5878) - Georgia, USA - MAR 6, 2010
Epic aroma is strong, smoky, mocha-ish and slightly sweet - it screams DRINK ME! This one pours a deep, warm, opaque sable with a nice buttery-tan head. Flavor is mainly molasses with undertones of coffee and unsweetened chocolate and a hint of caramel. Texture is smooth, fizzy and very lively. Worth hunting down! ucusty (2691) - raleigh, North Carolina, USA - MAR 1, 2010
Dark pour with a fluffy tan head. The nose is ashy, woody and chocolate. Flavor is roasty, espresso, smokey meats and light campfire. Real solid offering adavis234 (288) - Charleston, South Carolina, USA - FEB 27, 2010
Draft from Greens Beverage. Pours a dark, deep brown with a thick tan head. Heavy, woody, roasted, smoky malt aroma. Taste is lightly chocolately, with smoky wood malt flavor over a hint of hops. A good deal of flavor but thinner than most other porters. Nice, lingering aftertaste though. The first beer I’ve had from Coast and I have to say I’m impressed. Growler courtesy of bobby8405. It pours deep mahogany with tan head. The aroma is a pleasing mix of smoke, smoked bacon, roasted malts and sweet molasses. Yum. The taste starts with sweet and roasty malts moving into a combination of burnt malts and smooth smoke dried bacony pork goodness. This comes together nicely.
