Gave it a 5 for appearance as I asked for a taste based on what the guy next to me was drinking. Really a perfect looking deep, warm red beer with a nice lasting head. Smoke is definitely there but well balanced with the expected sweetness from the darker malt and some hops as well. Does not fall prey to the overly sweet brews that seem to typify the brews of this color- scotch ale etc. But doesn’t finish bitter either. Really well done. My favorite from these guys thus far. icehawk (876) - Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, USA - DEC 8, 2013
Cloudy reddish brown with short lasting white head. Really pleasant smoke aroma with rye and peppery undertones. Medium body. Smokiness is perfectly balanced and doesn’t finish bitter at all. Damn nice beer.
